Can anyone rec a PMI policy, not interested in gimmicks like free gym memberships or M+S vouchers, just a good policy which would cover myself and wife for treatment in our local bupa hospital including consultants costs at a reasonable monthly premium.I know there are hundreds of pmi policys so I was wanting any reccomendations from experience of good service.

I have been very happy with Norwich Union Healthcare. Have had lots of claims in the 5 years since we've had the policy, and they have always been very professional and efficient, usually agreeing cover over the phone without the need to fill out a claim form, and then paying the hospital/ consultant direct, without us having to pay out first.

We have just changed (to save money), to a Trust Care policy, which covers us using our local BMI hospital as it is in the grounds, and partnered with, our NHS hospital.

IMO, it is worth looking at this policy, if the hospital you want to use is on their designated approved list. We have also agreed to a £100 excess, to reduce the premiums further.

Have a look at WPA they do a deal where if you can negotiate cheaper treatment with the hospital/ consultant they split the saving from the standard rate with you

I'm with Bupa. I've been very happy with the service that they've provided me. Last year I actually took advantage of it and booked an appointment with a consultant at my local Bupa hospital (after a referral from my GP). They asked when I wanted the appointment, I said ASAP and I almost fell off of the chair when they said how about tomorrow?! Much quicker than the 4 months I had to wait on the NHS and the hospital was lovely.
