I just wanted to make everyone aware of Hypervitaminosis A (Vitamin A poisoning). Over the last few months we have noticed \that my 15 year old daughter skin started to go very yellow, all over her body. We went back and forth to the Doctors but all they said was that she wasn't aneamic and not sure why her skin was so yellow. However her symptoms got worse her skin became very itchy and she started pulling out her hair in clumps as her scalp itched so much, she now has a huge bald patch bigger than the size of my fist plus smaller bald patches in other areas on her scalp. She has also been getting severe headaches and her bones and muscles hurt so much she crys if she has to walk so far. We have now found out this has all been caused by Vitamin A poisoning caused by my daughter eating to many carrots. Over the last few months my daughter has become addicted to carrots. I used to buy about four large bags every other day because we have pets that eat carrots. Each bag would hav about 20 carrots in nd my daughter would eat a whole bag to herself by the time I had put away my shopping. She has been eating about 20 carrots aday and secreetly buying them on her way to School. We are now waiting for results to see if she has damaged her liver and bone and calcuim results. My daughter started eating carrots because she thought she was being healthy but I just wanted to warn parents of the dangers of eating to many.Yesterday we saw the Consultant Dermatologist who told my daughter she must not eat any more carrots or other products with Vitamin A , The Consultant took photos of my daughter hands as she said this was the worse case of yellow skin she had seen. But when we got home I took her in a cup of Tea and found her with a near empty bag of carrots, that she had bought earlier without me knowing on her way to School. I could not believe after all the Doctors have old her and how ill she is becoming she is still sneaking out and buying carrots. Has anyone else experienced this condition? Here is a link if anyone wants any further information about this condition.

Have they offered her any kind of psychological help Fabwitch? I think there may be more to this than simply liking the idea of eating carrots. Can you get your GP to refer her somewhere that could involve some kind of talking therapy?

Very worrying for you.
