Please use this thread to chat about the free cinema ticket offers :)

Please note that swapping of tickets should not be posted as it is against the site rules to exchange personal details. See here (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=3477024&postcount=20).

If you obtained your tickets via seefilmfirst, you should email them so they can re-allocate your tickets.

If by change you cannot make it to a screening, we can give your ticket to someone else. Please let us know by e-mail on icantgo@seefilmfirst.com

Other than doing that, you can use sites like freecycle to give your tickets to someone :)

Judi Dench was amazing :T Going to see Rocky tonight and am soooooo excited  Bit like buses no tickets available for me for 9 months then two in two days !!!! My luck must be turning. Thanks for all the codes guys, here's to a happier Discussion thread, LL80:A

Me too loobyloo80, thought Cate Blanchetts storyline was a bit uncomfortable but loved how they both played the characters. Off to see Rocky tonight in Cardiff.
The girls in work want more Swansea showings

p.s. I have to appologise for seefilmfirst now doing 6 digit codes instead of 5, as it was my fault. It only took a day to try every combination of possible codes, so they website got hammered every week. But at least it's brought me here.

Just seen Babel , was hard to follow and not one to watch with your older teenage children !!! I thought it was worth sitting it out though as I was fasinated by how all the plots came together in the end . I guess if I go to see it again that the final bits of the story will drop into place .
Thanks for regularly updating the site my partner and I think you must be really commited as we can not believe the times that some of the postings are made ! Well done and keep it up .

BTW :- We counted up last night how many films we have had free over the last 9 months and it now totals 18....... wow who said you cant get anything for free .. off to see Rocky tonight !

Notes on a Scandal - My husband pointed out it's the same story as Hollyoaks are currently spewing out! I was amazed he noticed. I think Notes on a Scandal was excellent the acting was a wee bit superior to Hollyoaks (Ok sorry for being sarcastic!).

Can't make Rocky - boo hiss!!

isnt it typical...a film comes up in southend and theres only one ticket left so i print it up for my daughter and now she says se wont go on her own, which is more typica, only one ticket left or the kid that wont go on her own lmao...looks like il have to go on my own instead...

30th is nearly here and cant wait to see notes of a scandal after all the ravs on here about it...

I would act daft and say "you meant to get two but pressed one by mistake" or something....they never look at your ticket anyway.....and 99% of the time its not full anyway.

PS Notes on a Scandal - not what I was expecting, acting was good - Judi Dench excellent, some kinda funny bits but found it a bit boring to be honest.

Hi I was lucky enough to get tickets too see Babel in Sheffield on Monday night but when we arrived they were completely full!!! I will give the cinema full credit as they did offer my the chacne to see something else so we saw Night at the museam. FAB FILM!!
I was wondering if this happens often as if it wasnt for the cinemas kind offer that would have been a whole load of organising (for me with kids ect) for nothing.

Wow saw Rocky last night-it was brilliant-even my less than interested B/F was hooked. I would definately recommend this film and would happily have paid to see it. Lots of highs and lows-won't spoil the storyline for anyone but it is funny and sad and the fight scene was awesome. Great, Thanks all. LL80

Just come back from free screening of Dreamgirls - one of the best films I have seen in a while. For those of you who watch American Idol, you may remember the fantastic talents of Jennifer Hudson who was wrongly voted off early! Well, she is magnificent in this film and is a great actress. Eddie Murphy plays a brilliant part, at first you think 'here we go again - Beverly Hills Cop all over' but half an hour into the film you believe in his character completely. Beyonce is, well, Beyonce (on occasion forgot what film I was watching, remembering her from Austin Powers), but for me Jennifer Hudson stole the show. A great feel good motown movie with a great soundtrack. A must go see! :j

caseya - I'll second that - really enjoyed the film - I love Motown which I grew up listening to - the story isn't completely correct but you get the idea - fabulous costumes, sets, choreography, great music too - although I think a better film would be the real story of Motown with the original music and names unchanged - maybe that'll happen one day when enough time has passed - now that would be interesting.

That said, 'Dreamgirls' really entertains and what can you say about Jennifer Hudson except WOW :D

Dreamgirls...
What can I say that hasn't been said?! Really enjoyed it. The soundtrack is excellent. Out of everyone, Hudson's performance is by far the most superior one. She has an amazing voice, and I hope this film boosts her career cos she deserves it. She got a Golden Globe for best supporting actress.
Murphy got the best supporting actor and the film won the best motion pic (musical/drama).

In another genre, off to see Bobby tonight.

I saw Dreamgirls in Cardiff Vue last night - fantastic film and they showed it in a larger theatre than usual but there were eight of us watching! I was stunned - awards, oscar nominations, enthusiastic reviews and that had to be the fewest number of people that I have ever seen at a free screening.

Saw Bobby last Night at Cardiff Cineworld - Mary Anne St

Excellent Movie ...All Star Cast and well Directed....Worth Paying to See

Arrived at Cinema at 18:45 for Advertised start time of 19:00 (which was on the Original Ticket and on the Reminder sent by Momentum only a couple of days ago) only to find the Movie had actually started at 18:30 this obviously meant we had missed the first 15 Mins of the movie

Asked Cinema Staff the Obvious "Why?" Question and they Said "It is not our fault it is Momentum's, they Insisted we start the Movie at 18:30" and they also said "They (Momentum) had informed you all of this"

I contacted Momentum to Question this Fact and this was their Reponse
I’m sorry you missed the first 15 minutes or so of the film though – I’d like to take this opportunity to confirm Momentum Pictures did not ask the cinema to start the film at 6.30pm. All yesterday’s Cineworld screenings were booked for 7pm starts; and if there had been any change, all our winners would have been notified at least 48 hours in advance via email.

We have asked Cineworld for an explanation as this is neither acceptable nor fair to our customers
Sounds About Right to me as previously if there have been any changes in Momentums screening times or Dates. I have always been informed in Advance.

Shame on you Cineworld Cardiff firstly for changing the Time of the Screening and Secondly for trying to Blame someone else for it !!!

I didn't like 'Venus' either much - very slow !!. Apparently the writer has previously won several awards. Unless there are only 20 seats per code etc.

But it's a bit silly doing both Dreamgirls and Notes on a Scandal on the same day. I have tickets for both showings next tuesday and 6.30. So which one shall i got to?

Hi Mr Kennedy, I have seen both and can only say if you like musical style movies Dreamgirls is for you. A few people did leave half way through the showing we attended.

Notes on a scandal is a great movie Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett both play brilliant part. This is a very easy watch.

My husband thought these where both "Chick Flicks" but did enjoyed them.

Hope this helps you a little

I thought Dreamgirls was great - most of the central performances are top drawer, even Beyonce is solid if unspectacular, and i loved the style and vibrancy of the film.

However, its not for people who are 'too cool for school'! its a musical in every sense, and even though i loved the songs, they are LONG and LOUD and somewhat of a terrific musical ordeal (especially 'im telling you').

I must admit, towards the end there were groans every time the singing started (I saw it at Bradford last night)
The singing would have had more impact if they'd just kept it to the performances!

Hi Ali,

As you know, it was me who asked you to remove your message. I was going for blunt rather than rude, but I'm sorry that you were offended.

People have tried asking nicely, that doesn't work. Don't you realise how annoying it is to clog up the thread with requests? Why did you post a request? Why would you think that it is ok as long as you delete it later? As soon as you post, it emails every single subscriber to tell them to check the thread. Believe me, it's very annoying to find a message like yours.

And what does the fact that I'm a newbie (at least going by post count) have to do with anything? Clearly I have a better understanding of the way it works than you do!

Apologies for upsetting you anyway, but I do hope the 'no requests' rule is now a little clearer.

I watched Dreamgirls last week, enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. With regards to the loud volume. Bill Condon (The director) has written to every cinema (well he did to us!) showing the film, requesting that the sound be played at 7 due to the mix. Most films we play around 5-6 in Digital, so turned up to 7 is quite a jump. I checked it at 7, and yes it is loud, but it emphasises the dynamics of the sound mix. I also noticed that the speaking sections of the film are recorded quite low, so if the film was turned down to say 5, the speech would have been too low.

A lot of films are recorded this way, forcing us to turn up the volume, meaning normal talking is a good level, but action can sometimes be too loud :(

jane22
28-01-2007, 6:34 PM
True, but instant notification is quite useful to me as I live in London and the London tickets usually go in minutes of anyone posting anything!

Anyway, lots of people get annoyed by the misplaced posts, in fact, that's what this very thread is for! I am not alone, althouhg I'm glad to hear that you are one of that rare breed who never ever gets annoyed by something which is not life-changing.

Preview is on Feb 5th 2007

I picked up a voucher off the desk in Adams today, it says on the front exclusive adamscard preview.

BUT, on the back it says you hand in the flyer at the cinema to exchange for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 kids OR 1 adult, 3 kids)

Must be redeemd between jan 15th and feb 1st.

It does not say you need to show an adams card and the sales assistant said you dont have to be a card holder either.

It is the odeon in Greenhithe, Birmingham, Leicester, Leeds, Newcastl on Tyne, Glasgow, Manchester, London

Cineworld in Luton, Milton Keynes and Cardiff

And Movie house in Belfast.

Here here !!:T
Life is too short to get so stressed out over something so petty.
Re the email updates.....I DID used to have this, but cancelled because I was forever checking the thread when people were just chatting ( before the thread split), but....
Even when I do check in every couple of days or so, I find the films are not suitable, or more often, my cinema is not listed. So 80% of the posts on the other thread are not any use to me anyway.
But so what ?! at least I know what films are out and about, and even the 20% of posts that are relevant to me are worth the effort involved.

These threads help you get tickets for FREE, or at least for the price of a magazine or phone call. I have said it before, this saving money lark takes time. If you are fussy about the day and time of the screening, or even the time wasted reading posts which you deem inappropriate, well just decide which film you want to see, find the time and location best suited to you, and go and queue and buy a ticket.

Politeness and good manners cost nothing, I would hate for anyone to be put off posting information and opinions for fear of having a peal rung over them publically for posting on the wrong thread, or to have upsetting pms - whether intended or not.

Now please don't let THIS thread deteriorate as the Tesco misprice discussion one regularly does......and it is often closed because of it !!;)
Let's all play nicely, and while I am clogging up the thread can I pass on a heart-felt thank you to everyone who does take the time and effort to post information ( and comments) you have saved me an absolute fortune last year, and also I actually have soemthing to write on the calendar rather than just dentist appointments etc. Keep up the sterling work :T :T

p.s if any mods want to delete this feel free, I do thank all the posters anyway for posts which I find useful. Have a good day folks

I went to go see Notes on a Scandal tonight, but there was something wrong with the roads near my house. It took me 30 minutes to drive through my small village, which killed any chance I had of seeing it :( So instead of seeing the movie I spent 30 minutes in traffic then turned around and came home. Hope everyone else who went had fun!

'Notes on a scandal' was absolutely fantastic - the four of us were literally on the edge of our seats in one scene hanging on every word. I don't want to give too much away but it's very thought provoking, poignant and almost creepy in parts.

To see these two great pros at work Judi & Cate is sheer joy. Real nail biting story, original script and sumptuous music soundtrack - truly excellent.

If Judi has been nominated then she deserves to win although I expect the real winnings will come from the box office takings when word of this movie spreads. I recognised some of the london locations which was nice - it's basically an all Brit flick......

3 cheers for 'Notes on a scandal'

Loved it too although my husband didnt think it was his kind of film... fair enough I guess. Brilliant thuogh - but not as good as the book.

Where do you think the london locations were? There was one point where I saw a sign with a road name and despite my squinting I couldn't really read it! Any ideas where Sheba's house and the school were, etc?

Loved it too!!! I haven't read the book but I would like to now. Very well acted and totally believable. I don't think it is for everyone though, it makes a change from a lot of the shallow stuff from Hollywood. I saw The Holiday and thought Kate Winslet lifted it to bearable. I would pay to see Notes on a Scandal again

Notes on a Scandal is brilliant and Julie Dench deserves an Oscar. She's well suited to the role. What a psycho! I really wanted to slap her when she threw her toys out of the pram in the school play scene.

Yes, go back a few pages and youll see a few people thought it was too loud !! What a disappointment it was - thought it was gonny be old Motown hits but was just crappy songs they had made up themselves that seemed to go on forever !!! ! still cant believe its up for all these awards etc..

And Movie house in Belfast

I have asked about these in every Adams store I could find. Most sa look at me blankly, and claim they don't know what I am talking about. One store offered me some colouring competition entry forms, and today I noticed a sign saying if you spent over £40 in one purchase they would give you a voucher, so if you "picked one up" from the desk you did good.
Since today was the last chance to get the tickets I will have to admit defeat and give up the chase.
Hope everyone who has got tickets enjoys the film. Thanks for the heads up anyway.....never been in an Adams shop for years, now been in 4 in a week !!;)

Birmingham Cineworld, Broadstreet
6.30pm for 7pm
February 8th

www.seefilmfirst.com (http://www.seefilmfirst.com) code 104161

A little investigation would reveal it was deleted as "...Unfortunately this screening is now full."

These are not free as you have to buy a copy of The Daily Telegraph, so 70p = 2 tickets

Details here (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=4199122#post4199122)

I haven't seen the paper yet but the Telegraph website and Bafta website says:

"Vouchers will be published in The Daily Telegraph every day until Monday, January 30."

And there is no mention of Little Miss Sunshine being shown either.

Maybe the website is not up to date..? Check the paper before buying.

Today's Telegraph, London, has a full page ad on page 33 with the details and Little Miss Sunshine (excellent film) will be screened 4 times between now and February 8th, the first screening is this evening at 8:45 PM (with the screening times the same for all cinemas).

You can buy as many Telegraphs as you like as it's not restricted to one per household.

You need one token to get 2 tickets to ONE of those films.

If you want to see all 9 films you'd need 9 tokens etc etc.

Is there any chance this thread can be made a 'sticky' beside the codes thread to try and keep discussion located here?:T

Yes, I think that would be a good idea.

I almost just replied to a post in the cinema ticket thread because someone had made a discussion post in it and I briefly thought I was in the discussion only thread.

I really don't understand which part of "don't make comments other than cinema ticket offers" it is in the cinema ticket thread that people do not understand  :D

o_t_e
05-02-2007, 9:59 PM
I can sort of forgive people who are posting for the first time and the discussion thread is way down the list - I actually find those posts in the codes thread admonishing such people to be more irritating - I can't help but wonder what is the point of advising others that the thread is for offers only in a post that immediately contravenes that convention.

On another topic, anyone going to the screening of Hot Fuzz in Newcastle tomorrow should check their e-mails; apart from the usual reminder I received a second message to saying bags will be searched and mobile phones retained until the end of the film...

Just a reminder that swapping of tickets should not be posted as it is against the site rules to exchange personal details. See here (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=3477024&postcount=20).

If you obtained your tickets via seefilmfirst, you should email them so they can re-allocate your tickets.

If by change you cannot make it to a screening, we can give your ticket to someone else. Please let us know by e-mail on icantgo@seefilmfirst.com (icantgo@seefilmfirst.com)

Other than doing that, you can use sites like freecycle to give your tickets to someone :)

Crikey, what have I missed. I logged on 1st thing this am to the ticket site and saw the e-mail reiterating what i'd posted yesterday so I just PMd the poster and did likewise to the person who asked if anyone had used the offer.

I log back in at lunch and WWIII has taken place and all the evidence has been removed so I've no idea what the palaver actually was!

Anyway seems it's all resolved now and we can all go back to being cheery chums.

It is irritating (but not life threatening) to get nonsense posts on the ticket site so maybe we could use the Personal Messges (PM) politely to get things back in order?

jane22
06-02-2007, 12:57 PM
Agreed. 95% of postings on the wrong thread just get calmly deleted.

Noone would think it was ok if people kept posting the ticket offers on the credit card or mobile phone boards, or information about credit cards or mobile phones on this thread. It's not hard to put your post in the right place.

Cardiff was nearly full - only a couple of spare seats. I don't think that I have ever laughed out loud so much in a cinema and thought that the film was brilliant. The continuity was flawless, the number of great actors who appeared in minor roles was staggering - Billie Whitelaw! - the cumulative effect of the increase in pace and sight gags was terrific.

why has the tickets thread been closed and a new one opened?

That was well over a month ago (16th Dec) - it was because "it was getting out of hand" I think.
Although why it wasn't just trimmed, edited, maintained & policed like the new one is I havn't got a clue.

EDIT EDIT EDIT !

CORRECTION ! I'm confused now.

The "tickets only" thread - the "old" New thread
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=329462

started on 16/12/2006

NOW there is another NEW thread with a link posted TODAY at the end of the above thread

to....

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=352410

BUT THIS WAS STARTED OVER THREE WEEKS AGO ???????

1st post 17th January 2007 .

WHAT ???? WHY ???

heatherw_01 you seem to be "controlling" this - can you correct this ?

Delete the "latest" new thread - go back to the one that has been maintained and policed for a couple of months - just transfer the last 2 or 3 posts that have new details.

got tickets to the metro valentines screening of the painted veil. Was wondering if anybody else got them and all they had was a printed page with the selected cinema and a confirmation code. Don't want to turn up at the flicks with my girlfriend and end up looking like a fool.

yes,,, I got some for Manchester...same thing

know what u mean,,,about the possibility of being a valentines chump.... been there before... but married so it doesnt matter now.

think they will be cool.... but try calling your local Cinema to confirm all ok if your worried

Yeah i'll check the day before just to make sure. Not received confirmation email like with film first so was just a little sceptical. A champagne and chocolate reception sounds better than the dvd/ dinner I had planned.

It's about £2.99 IIRC for the ticket or £3.50 with the popcorn/sweets/drink & promotional toy - HTH

It costs £2.50 for just a ticket ;)
The "deal" with fruit shoot, skittles and sml bag of popcorn ( NOT the tubs of) is £4.50 !!
we bring our own snacks ,mucho cheaper ;) and healthier than a fruit shoot and skittles

I never bring the kids to see a new release anymore :rotfl:
wait a few months then see it for a fiver for a family of 4  ;)

Off to see Ice age 2 this weekend ,although we did see it when it was first out ,before i heard about the cheapy Kids showings   :rotfl:

Manchester had loads of spare seats.... backs up my (and many others) thoughts that a few paintshop'd tickets aint a bad thing...I'll continue doing it!

quite agree Mancunian. Seefilmfirst or the cinema themselves (can't see it happening) will have to introduce some kind of ID thing if they want it stopped it's so easy to do. and I think a lot of people are doing it now.

I just always make sure I am there early so I'm not left outside if lot's of people with fake tickets want in!! :p

I cannot view the first page of the original free cinema tickets threas so I cannot clean it up. This seems to happen when a thread has too many deleted posts in it. As a board guide that has cleans the thread up this cannot happen when I cannot access the thread.

jane22
10-02-2007, 2:13 PM
Sorry Heather, and I know you're just trying to do your job, but your message comes across as basically saying 'well, it was inconvenient for me to have to view all the deleted posts, so i decided to start a new thread, even though this is inconvenient for hundreds of other people.' I do understand that this isn't what you meant, but it really is irritating to have a new thread so soon, especially since you didn't even give us any advanced warning that you would switch, so we could switch our subscription etc.

Thanks though for the work you put in.

o_t_e
10-02-2007, 2:47 PM
I may be wrong but when heather says she cannot view the first page I think she means the most recent page ie for heather the thread becomes so long and encumbered by deleted posts that she no longer has access to the most recent posts and so it becomes necessary to start a new thread - is that right?

The simple solution is to only post direct offers in the direct offers thread - if the vast number of superfluous postings and subsequent deletions in that thread render it beyond the limitations of the board to cope we only have ourselves to blame if a new thread becomes a requirement.

jane22
10-02-2007, 3:36 PM
Oh - so by first page she means last page?!

o_t_e, you will soon give up trying to get people to understand the simple, simple, simple rule of not posting on that thread unless they have to. Trying to make this happen is harder than blood from a stone. Actually, the problem is, it's not that people don't understand, it's that they don't care. Everyone thinks that their particular question or comment or witticism is the exception to the rule... after all, what difference does one make, right?

Can someone clarify is this site for free cinema tickets, or competitions to win tickets?
I post this here and not in the discussion thread because i'd like a clear answer from someone on high, NOT a discussion.

EDIT: i'd like to clarify i didn't know what a moderator was/that there was such a thing or how to contact them, so posted my query here.
I didn't want to bother normal people like me with discussion and debate, just have someone high up who decides the rule, tell me what the rule was.

I have recevied alot of abusive e-mails, swearing and calling me names, demanding i do various things.
I asked individuals to stop pm-ing after several abusive e-mails, they didn't stop and the content got worse, because of the agression and abuse I now delete without reading all my private messages. So if you are the people sending these your waisting your time.

I will of course delete this soon but as it was a post here that generated the bullying & abuse it felt right to respond here.

Sorry to everyone not effected by this for taking up space.

In response to Little Jaffas post on the other thread !

can someone clarify is this site for free cinema tickets, or competitions to win tickets?

there is a difference and until recently it's been free tickets, with competions on the competition thread.

i post this hear and not in the discussion thread because i'd like a clear answer from someone on high, NOT a discussion, and hope if the response is 'no competitions' everyone will delete there posts.

i will of course delete this when it's been responded to

many thanks

I have just followed the info posted by "torialou" (many thanks) and managed to "win" tickets to the champagne and chocolate premier of The painted veil.
I know the overall thread is re "freebies", but these often involve a phone call, or buying a magazine/newspaper. Strictly speaking nothing which involves you spending money (inc a stamp, or even paying for internet connection to enable you to get these "freebies") should be allowed.
But, speaking personally I am grateful for any information which in this instance saves me substantially when going to the cinema.
Even printing off an email and taking it to the cinema to collect your ticket a week before the actual screening, is in effect costing you money ( and time), but I would much rather have all these CINEMA related bargins under one roof, as it were, rather than scattered over the 'competitions', 'discounts' and 'freebies' threads.
In the past I have copied posts from this thread over to the Newspaper thread on the Discount Codes....section, because there was an offer to a free screening in the Sun.
There are many areas where the threads overlap, and I think a bit of common sense and flexibility goes a long way to help everyone ;)
Just my personal opinion.

Thanks to everyone again for their contributions and postings, I really appreciate it, as do my family and friends who I am slowly converting to being MSEs:T

jane22
10-02-2007, 6:05 PM
Oh, and The Old Bag,accordnig to a PM I just received, little jaffa isn't interested from responses from people like you and me. He/she only wants to hear from moderators. Noone else's opinion counts, apparently! And it's the fact that he wants to hear from a mod which makes it ok to post on the offers thread....

jane22
10-02-2007, 6:06 PM

i'm really sorry to have to post this but after 4 abusive pm's from jane22 (including 2 after i'd specifically asked her not to contact me again) and seeing what she's wrote publicly on here i had to respond.

I asked for someone 'on high' to respond to save everyone else bothering and prevent an in thread discussion. I had no idea who the moderator was or how to contact them directly, or even that i could contact them directly, or i would have done. (I didn't even know there were called moderators)

If anyone has been offended or bothered by my post i'd sugest your taking mse to seriously, but there is no excuse for the abuse i've received by pm.

As this is meant for cinema ticket discussion i will not post again and will delete this post when all personall comments about me have been deleted.

Many thanks

10-02-2007, 6:25 PM
Why don't you post the part of my message you found offensive, littlejaffa? I'm mystified.

first message:

"Competitions and offers are fine. Just please delete your post, it's not an offer, and that's what the thread is for. I know you want a reply to your question, but so does everyone, and that's what the discussion thread is for. It's the same moderator for both so no advantage to posting your thread on the one you chose apart from irritating people. Thanks for deleting it asap."

"No......... are you?" (in response to message "are you the moderator?")

"It's equally obvious that I'm not a moderator!

If you want to hear from the moderator, and them alone, why not just PM them? Why did you make a public posting? Other people, like me, are just trying to help you. But you're not interested? How rude! Why don't you just PM the moderator and delete your post?"

and "Oh and there's another reply to your message on the correct thread. (i.e. the discussion thread)."

What on earth was offensive? I answered your question, pointed you to another answer, and suggested you delete your message as everyone gets annoyed about posts on the wrong thread. Sorry, I assumed that after 607 posts you would know that there are moderators on this board (they call them board guides, specifically)... they're listed at the bottom of the page and one of them, heather, is the person who maintains the thread about free tickets. I genuinely think that if you want to hear from a moderator and only a moderator, surely PM is best?!

jane22 - on the attack again about people posting on the wrong thread. 42 post counts and most of them must have been whinging about something or somebody no doubt. What happened to the rules about always being helpful ad friendly? You are going to put people off posting at all !

This was my FRIENDLY pm NOT.

"Please delete your message on the free cinema postings thread. This has been said so many times, but evidently it's difficult for some of you to understand. The thread is ONLY for offers. That means no requests, no jokes, no comments, no film reviews. Nothing apart from ticket offers.

Many of us have subscribed so that we get an email every time someone posts, and we just aren't interested in your questions and requests. There is another thread for those.

It's a fairly simple concept, so please can you try and stick to it. If you could delete your message"

jane22
10-02-2007, 6:44 PM
But i, and someone else, have tried to help little jaffa but he isnt interested in our help!!!! That's why I think he should just PM the mod, because he doesn't want to hear what anyone else has to say... i think that's a bit rude as well.

Yes, in every London screening I have been to in the past few months they have asked everyone for ID. This is only in central-ish London (Panton Street, Shaftesbury Avenue, Brixton, Canary Wharf) though - I have no idea whether they check in outer London or elsewhere.

No. I had a steward take my ticket off of me once. I said "no one has before" and I was told that they should have done. But then, once again the next time I go no one asks, in fact I try to offer my ticket and they say they don't need to keep it. But no, noone has ever asked for my ID which is silly.

I wish they would have some kind of photo id swipe card for membership and ID for companies like Momento and Seefirst.

We have never been asked for ID in Norwich ... but I did overhear the staff talking at this weeks screening of Hot Fuzz , asking the security guards to check that there were differents name on each of the tickets .

I think that its a good thing really , as we did recently turn up to see smoking aces with friends and were turned away as they were over subscribed .The tickets we had on that occasion were Radio one tickets and not seefilmfirst but film first also had tickets to allocate to that performance also !

For me its a long way to travel if you get turned away .... The staff at odeon were very good though and sent us four free tickets to see any film valid for a year :j

But if you have to read 27 unnecessary posts to find this information it would have saved you time to have gone to the site yourself.
Additionally, you first of all have to trust the person posting the information isn't making it up, or has accidentally got it wrong. Furthermore sometimes "full" doesn't mean forever. I usually check that my venue of choice is full for my own piece of mind, and I periodically try again just to check that it hasn't changed. Guess what ? Sometimes it has and I get a ticket !!!!

14-02-2007, 12:20 AM
Actually, as I'm sure others may tell you, despite the venues showing up as full right now, quite often the same code becomes valid again (as people either contact seefilmfirst letting them know that they can't make it to the screening for whatever reason OR seefilmfirst decides to allocate more tickets for a certain code).

Well seeing as the people who were posting probably thought that they were being helpful you could have just posted this simple explanation in the first place rather than being an @ss about it. That way you would have saved numerous people's time in reading all your drivel when there arnt even any current offers.

But does it matter?!

Well if 13 individual cinema full posts by the same person is "ridiculous" and "unhelpful" to the general presentation and usefulness of the thread as a whole, then cinema full posts by 13 different individuals is also just as unhelpful and ridiculous as it amounts to exactly the same. And 13 is quite a small number in this instance, I've known screenings with as many as 40+ venues on offer.

In addition those members that have subscribed to the thread and chosen to "receive email notifications of new posts" (since when a genuine preview offer is added the ticket allocation can be gone in minutes so they need to know FAST) each and every one of these posts will have sent them an email. They don't know that the new post they've been emailed about is someone saying "thanks - got some" or "bath is full" or "where is the Timbuktu Hippodrome?" until they've checked the thread ! These subscribed members want an email ONLY when there is a posting of A NEW OFFER - that's why it is (or was) THE TICKET OFFERS ONLY (no discussion) thread

Not long ago there was a "free cinema tickets thread" where all free offers could be grouped together. Within a couple of weeks there were HUNDREDS of posts and yet the actual number of offers could be counted on one hand !

To me that's why it does matter !

I am one of these people, and I don't think most people really mind opening an email and clicking on a link to find it's not a free ticket. It takes seconds, that's all. Of course I can only speak for myself.

As far as I can see AngelUndercover has simply gone back and forth between this thread and the SeeFilmFirst website (or whatever) looking for ticket avialbility for each individual cinema. Why not just visit it once and then make one post? Upping that post count, maybe?

This does not mean that the same notification by individual posters is a waste of time - it's just plain unnecessary... Why? Well, when I see new tickets up for grabs, I just go straight to the website and try my luck. I think it is safe to say that no one reads through all the "Cardiff full", "Bath full" posts first before trying for themselves.

Why can't this post be like the Pigsback one, where all the info is in the first few posts or so of the thread and the rest (inc. discussion) is jus posted at the end...?

Glad we made a new thread, too! Much clearer to read....!?! ;)

please stop cluttering up this board with unwanted posts - this thread is for cinema offers only!!
like this one yeah?

chill. its helpful information. its not like i'm spamming so just calm down and shh.
making just one post? Yeah...but why should I when its far, far more fun to drag it out and make...dare I say it, pointless posts?

........blimey, sheffield is full
so you expect one person to check ALL the sites?

get off your high horse an calm down!
actually saying somewhere is full in a thread is useful saves you time actually going to the site putting in the code only to then find its full.unless of course you wanna try anyway. i havent got time to do all that when i should be busy at work!!!!
exactly.
but just so you know, we arent all idoits here (though some have been acting like it lately) we know that people cancel tickets but its nice to know that the general allocation has gone and if people still choose to try for tickets then fair enough.

personally i'd rathr know a screening is full or not as i'm sure many on here would be.

some people on here are just waaaaay too anal and i guess thats never changed

Did war break out in the cinema ticket thread last night?

Chill pill anyone? its free

Your mums would make you all play nice. Or crack your heads together.

I was guilty of posting that Lowry was full for Peter Pan, the mod moved it and I learned not to do that again, I'll put it in this thread next time.

Free cinema tickets are great, its good to share, and its nice to be nice.

Happy Valentines day X X X

I accidentally posted this in the tickets thread first, easy mistake now

Ok - I thought in light of the recent discussion, I'll add my two-pennies worth.

No I don't think angelundercover nor quoia are childish in making the point known. I've never had a problem understanding the clear distinction between the offers-only and discussion-only threads but unfortunately, as this discussion has highlighted, others don't wish to follow the 'guidelines'.

As both MSErs have pointed out, the 'so and so is full' posts do not benefit anyone however, I expect these posters are either a) trying to be genuinely helpful, or b) knowingly cluttering up the thread with posts they know others deem irritating. My point being?...I don't think you'll ever get to a point where each and every MSEr will comprehend and adhere to the guidelines for two separate threats. Therefore, I think Madjohn's suggestion is a good one - although it would require someone to continually update the first post in the thread.

Why can't this post be like the Pigsback one, where all the info is in the first few posts or so of the thread and the rest (inc. discussion) is jus posted at the end...?

And finally...someone asked earlier about whether this thread should contain cinema tickets competition offers...why not?...every one I've entered, I've received a ticket. Everyone who has posted offers for cinema tickets - THANK YOU :T

so tell me where the sense is in coming onto a forum, reading a thread and wanting to add a reply, however relavent, and then finding out that oh you cant cos some uppity users have decided that you have to search through the rest of the forum to find another, specific thread, that you actually ARE allowed to post in?!

can no on else see how petty and pathetic this is?

there is no need for multiple threads on the same subject (i'v seen this with other topics not just the cinema one) and i for one think its a bit silly and it actually deters me away from the site cos i never know what thread is the most current.

Perhaps if this thread could be a sticky too then no one can be confused by the Offers Only thread or the Discussion Only thread...and no one can say they didnt know or couldnt find it :-)

Thanks. But I dont think anyone helps themselves by getting irate about the whole issue. And honestly Mancunian, not to offend you, in all sincerity I dont think you help yourself by posting the recent post on Offers about the made up film. Just ignore the issue - whats the worst they can do? Pm or write a forum reply(there is a report button..) ... its only text on a computer screen. Not worth getting upset about - thats to everyone!

What about a Sub-board within freebies being created for cinema related topics, within it one thread for Cinema tickets only & another thread for discussion?

Great idea labman but i think there would be the same problem with many people being unable to comprehend the difference between an offer and a question or comment i.e. discussion.

I don't think it's anything to do with IQ...just certain people being silly for the sake it ....perhaps!

jane22
14-02-2007, 3:07 PM
i think there are the people who are being silly because they are fed up of the people who can't get it right, and then there are some people who just can't seem to understand.

maybe it could be set up as some kind of form to fill out rather than the current inviting-looking white box.... i.e. you just type the code, which site it's on, film, date and time, and venues, or whatever. No space for random mutterings. Probably too complicated and no doubt someone would find a way to squeeze a little "SHEFFIELD FULL!!" in there somewhere.

Ever heard of ignore it and it will go away.

It was before, they all got moved in here earlier today. I'm commenting on the stuff I'm reading in the ticket thread in here cos it will clutter it up in there.

I'm sorry. I just found it amusing that there are people using that thread to moan about other people using that thread. I still do.

I know you are discussing how to sort it, and good luck to you.

I can't help thinking that the mod will just move posts when they spot them and the rest of us can just take a deep breath and have a cuppa.

I'm gonna do what the wise people do an just lurk for a while.

Unfortunately as per a previous mod post the irrelevant posts are causing a problem...so why do people who should know better still keep posting in 'the wrong place' ?

to be honest my childish side takes over when i see how wound up people get (the non-mods who act like they are mod's by telling everyone else what to do) and have to make a big deal about not posting ANYTHING in the ticket thread that on those occasions where i usually wouldnt bother posting (relative or not) i do make a point of replying any chance i get. i am also the first to admit this is petty too. but its not done in a malicious way at all. far from it.
its just too many people take this board too seriously and i'v actually noticed that half the thread gets wiped, not just the supposed 'junk'.
i was looking for codes (over the w/e) for previews for this week (i know i saw some a few weeks back) and they had been removed (which i admit has been a major factor in my immaturaty over this whole matter)

thing is, it all still makes me laugh :rotfl:

ps
i hope you all realise that the only way you'll get everyone to NOT post in the ticket thread is by not allowing them. like maybe just a mod is allowed to post. a locked thread like.

but then again that creates more work for the mods and isnt that one of the issues?

....ho hum

This is my first post in this thread as I have a few points I wanted to share after taking some time to read all the previous comments.

1. Has anyone noticed the herd mentality of some of those posters in this thread?

2. Has anyone noticed the hypocrisy of these same posters who have actually made personal attacks about AngelUndercover and then have the audacity to accuse her of bullying? Yeah, let's all gang up on her.

3. I for one have benefited greatly from the freebie ticket thread and I will be the first to admit it. I have seen close to 20 films in the last 11 months without having to pay a cent and I have AngelUndercover to thank for quite a few of them. Cheers to all the kind people who have shared codes and details for the screenings.

4. It appears that the point of refraining from discussion on the sticky is over many peoples heads/too difficult to understand. Perhaps someone would explain the fact that many of us who do subscribe to the thread receive multiple email notices from a variety of, what may/may not be (it's a matter of opinion) less useful posts (for want of a better phrase).

5. I remember the discussion of a few months ago about the sticky having a first page that could be updated on a regular basis. Whatever happened to that idea? Labman's idea of a sub-board for the sticky is a good one in my opinion.

Those are my thoughts.

Now, before the abusers turn their attention to me  .......and before the wife realises that my valentine's surprise involves rugby..... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Is that the one that's Newcastle-under-Lyme? When I see that place-name, I wonder where it is. Sometimes there's previews listed for the Vue cinema in Newcastle-under-Lyme but I've not seen one recently. Hope to help. :)
