I have suffered from this for bleedin' years! Since I was a kid.
The quack has before prescribed Sudafed but I'm wondering whether there are any other cheaper alternatives or whether there is anything I can do to minimise the affects?
Don't mean to put everyone off their dinner but every morning I must spend five minutes coughing up all the crap/mucus that has built up overnight! It even makes me wretch which ain't nice!
Can anyone advise?
Ta very much! :)

Hi I have the same problem and take Sudafed like vitamins. For years I have read diet books that say 'cut down on dairy products as it produces loads of phlegm (mucus)' I have never been able to do this as love milk in my tea etc. However I have recently cut down on cheese and have definitely seen a decline in the amount of mucus. When I had cheese and crackers at my dads the other night, i spent the next couple of days with terrible sinus pain.
Not sure if its a co-incidence or not but am trying to persevere. (dont think i will ever give up milk) goats/soya milk is atrocious.
Hope this helps. If not, I am stumped as well.
ps. I was told to 'steam' twice a day but could never be bothered!!

Thanks blossom. :)
Know what you mean about the milk. Can always feel it coating my throat as I drink it! _pale_
But I love it too much aswell! :p
Do you know whether the supermarkets or anywhere do their own brand of 'Sudafed'. Just thought it might be a bit cheaper?

My daughter says ask pharmacist for cheaper option. Its best to go to small independent chemist and ask the pharmacist direct. Larger chemists sometimes just have sales people in front who dont know much about the different medicines on offer so only offer branded names.

A friend of mine swears by steaming with menthol crystals. It's supposed to help clear your sinuses, worth a try :) You can get a little tub from the chemist for about 75p

Is that regular thing like once a day?
Do you know if it's better at night or morning? :)

I'd say try it for a couple of days before you go to bed. It may help stop it from building up whilst your sleeping.
My GP advised me to turn the shower on and sit in the steam every night to help mine.

Try Potters Catarrah Pastilles or Numark Bronchial Balsam. Sometimes seems to clear or try Otovent (effectively blowing up water bombs with nostrils) to equalise sinus pressures and get rid of catarrah.
Seems a bit weird, but a lot of ENT specialists prescribe it and customers buy it for around £8

i can't remember the real name of the operation i had, i always call it a rebore
i was in hospital 2 1/2 days then had 3 weeks off work to allow the wound to heal

I had flu as a kid and ever since then I've sniffed.
Really struggling from it at the moment despite taking Sudafed. Even eating a meal is triggering it off!
Where can I find cattarh pastiles?

ewwww you dirty tramp :rotfl: :p
have you checked if maybe it could be an allergy? Maybe to your bedding or something? if you are breathing in something you are allergic to then it might cause mucus to build up to protect your throat
You can get anti-allergy quilts and pillows and stuff.

Well we've suspected I'm allergic to maybe animal fur or something!
When I had hamsters I had a chest thing going on and when we didn't have any it cleared up. And now there is the dog. Not sure if the 2 could be linked!

Well allergies do make you feel congested, I can tell you that as a hay fever sufferer.
When you went on that stag weekend (if you can remember :p) in between the booze, was you congested then? being away from the dog?

I can't remember but I never suffer as bad on holiday!

Maybe it is the dog then?
You could try some anti allergy tablets like claritin (I think that one can be used for animal hair) and see if that helps a little.
if it is relived when you are away from the dog, then I would lean towards it being an allergy hun.

You can buy a steam thing from Boots which is just a container for the water and olbus oil or methol crysals with a thing on the top that you pop your nose into.
I suffer badly sometimes from sinus problems and when on holiday found the air con really irritated it. I used to pop down to the coffee machine and get a cup of hot water and just steam with that which helped.
