I have had a horrible cold since thursday, and it's nearly gone. On Friday and saturday my back was aching a lot and now I can "feel" a chest infection coming on. My lungs feel heavy and i have a horrible taste in my mouth (the same one i always get when i have a chest infection) I'm asthmatic.

I haven't coughed up anything as yet, but have a tickly cough.

anything i can do?

Hi redballoon, have you tried taking garlic supplements?
try to buy the strongest ones you can ,I buy mine from www.zipvit.co.uk
If you take them everyday without fail when next winter arrives you find you fight off infections quicker.(with a bit of luck).
My mum had lots of chest infections but since taking garlic she has managed to fight them off.As far as I know you can take as much garlic as you want without any ill effects.

Epidemic Influenza And Vitamin D (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=51913) suggests the best approach to improving immunity may be to start by ensuring your Vitamin D status stays the same in Winter as would be if you went outside every day during the summer.
Direct MS org (http://www.direct-ms.org/supplements.html) lists a range of supplements and provides details of the amount required suitable for someone with an autoimmune condition however these would be equally suitable for anyone who felt they are vulnerable.

That particular list doesn't include Garlic but This shows Garlic may help immune status. (http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/full/131/3/1075S)

Moderate Exercise Wards Off Colds in Older Women (http://broadcaster.medpagetoday.com/t?r=2&ctl=561:FE152D8858C556112BFB4FB1F6E350C1)

This research was conducted using older women. Logically it is reasonable to deduce that similar improvements in immunity would occur in both sexes and all ages if the regular 5 day a week 45 minute walks continue for over 9 months.

I have just got over the most awful chest infection. It has been nearly FOUR weeks. I had antibiotics which cleared up the worst of it in a week but the constant coughing wore me out, especially at night.

If you have an infection then really you need to see the doc and get diagnosed. If it is an infection the soon you get antibiotics working the better.
