underground tickets for a family of four

hi,
we would just like some advice on purchasing london underground tickets for a family of two adults and two children aged 5 and 11.

we are going in november and will be there on a friday and saturday.

is there any way of purchasing the tickets before as there are always long ques at the ticket booths when we last went at kingscross station.

are family tickets available? also i have heard that children 5 and under go free? and older children go free at weekends? is that correct?

I just had a look but there seem to be lots of different scenarios.. if you go to www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/ there is all you need to know and it tells you how to buy tickets in advance somewhere on that site too...

If you click on tickets and oyster in the lefthand menu then scroll down to Visitor tickets you will find some useful stuff

Under-11s go free

Adults with a valid ticket, or using Oyster to pay as they go can take up to four under-11s for free on the Tube and Docklands Light Railway during off-peak hours:

From 0930 Monday to Friday

Okay, 5 year old will be free. 11 year old and adults will need a ticket. As you are only there a couple of days, perhaps best to buy Day Travelcards rather than get an Oyster card which requires a deposit.
