Hi Guys,

My wife has a poor eyesite and has been wearing glasses since she was 10. Her vision on her left eye -1400 and on her right -1450. Where can we get a cheap specs for her? She had her eye test at Boots and the cheapest they have offered was £196 excluding the frame.

Anybody else who have similar situation able to let us know where to get a cheaper one. And also she is not willing to have eye surgery. thanks in advance.

Trinity thanks. My wife has decided to get one from Boots but link has been very helpful and might consider next time she needs one or possibly look for the same specs on any of the websites advertise when it arrives and find the difference.

If the price difference will be too big then we might consider returning it.

cheers

Another idea with such a high prescription is to look at the possiblity of wearing contact lenses AND specs, the combination of the two means the specs prescription is reduced and cuts down the cost and thickness.

Its worth speaking to the optometrist as it can works for some but not for others !!

My wife used to wear contact lenses but has given up as she felt her eyes were so sensitive that it get's easily irritated.

Bisoy your wife has a complex prescription, it is illegal for anyone other than a registered dispensing optician or optometrist to dispense her with glasses. The fitting of the glasses are very important with that kind of prescription. She will not be able to buy glasses from anywhere other than a high street opticians.

I'm afraid to get a decent pair of glasses you're going to have to pay for them, there are no 'cheap' options with that level of prescription. Don't blame the opticians for that, write to your MP asking why the complex voucher is only worth £12. High index lenses are always expensive, it is unfortunate that your wife's prescription needs them.

When you buy glasses from a high street opticians you are also paying for the service that goes with this. Don't expect anyone to fit glasses professionally that have been bought of the internet. And as for an 'estimated PD', please don't get me started on this one.
