Try Ebay, Adtrader.co.uk or go to local scrappies - had mine kicked off a few times and they cost a fortune brand new.

Avoid the main dealer/stealers - they will rip you off.

Also, if you are handy with a screw driver, fit it yourself, should take under an hour depending on what you are dealing with.

If it's just the glass, many meduim sizes spares shops sell stick-on glass, that just attach directly to the wing mirror over the old glass. Halfords often have them, but I have often found that they have low stocks of common or older glass, and have to order.

If it's the whole mirror, try your local breakers, if you take it off yourself you will get to know how to put it back on.

Try to avoid the type of scrappies who have all of the parts on the shelf, for several reasons. Firstly they will have loaded the price for removal/storage. Second they might have even damaged the part taking it off, not always obvious until you come to fit it (and you won't get the screws/fixings with it). Third you never know what else you might spot on the car that might be of use to you that you forgot you needed!

As mirrors are a legal requirment and not to mention very useful, ebay might not be a good idea due to the time it takes to get the part, let alone getting a badly wrapped, therefore broken mirror through the post.............

fit it yourself.

very easy to do.

avoid main delaers, however smetimes ewith certian cars (mainly pacific rimmers) - there is very little scrap/salvage available.

My recollection is that you need two rear facing mirrors. There is no stipulation as to which side of the car they need to be on. So as long as you still have one good door mirror and the usual interior rear view mirror you are satisfying legal requirements. So do not be worried in to taking the first option that comes along especially if it is expensive.

Good point, true. BUT if you have always been used to having two mirrors, I would not like to drive with one (and the interior). Also if it's fitted and broken, it's technically an MOT failure.

If you read back to my first reply/post I didn't say just rush out to the main dealer and get them to fit it, I said go to the local scrappie and take one off yourself, so that you have the experience of how to do it, and get as many of the parts you may need as possible, at a cheap price.

Mine was smashed some time ago by a car coming in the opposite direction on my side of the road who decided he had right of way - I had to mount the verge to avoid a major crash.

Got my rover wingmirror from my local fixit garage who promised me it could be painted body colour (he fixed it black) - when I moved from the area other garages told me the paint wouldn't stick.

Anyway, look on www.yell.com for salvage yards there are two very good ones if you are near the Gloucester area but failing that just search yell or look on the web for the owners club for your make of car - the Ford Focus Owners club is amazing for hints and tips and fixits!

Good Luck.
