Today was coming out of my road and was goin a bit fast, about 38-40 mph in a 30mph road. Well anyways a police van was on opposite side of road. They didnt pull me over but do you think they would have took details? Thanks was an actual police van not a car.

What sort of police van was it? Was it one of the ones where the police are sat in the back with their equipment looking out the back (camera equipment I mean!)? I have seen some where the van doors are shut but you can clearly see that they have cameras in the back?
If they werent using the camera then I doubt there is much they can do as they wouldnt have hard evidence.

Well think yourself lucky if they haven't clocked you for speeding and then learn a lesson.
Speeding in a 30 limit, especially at 38 or 40, is the worst speeding you can do as it is there to protect pedestrians, particularly children, in built up areas.
That said I would think a van would be more likely to be checking speed, as all the mobile speed traps in my area use vans to carry the mobile equipment. Just because they didn't stop you doesn't mean they didn't record your speeding and that you won't get a notification in the post.

If I'm right, and you were speeding, they have 14 days to issue you a fine and your 3 points so you will know in 2 weeks.

Yes I would worry too, if you get off remember how you felt and it would have been worse if you had been in accident

Do you have any other points on your License, if not learn from this and do not speed and keep a clean License.
If the van was on the other side of the road then it would have been checking vehicles travelling on that side and not the opposite.

You know if you get 6 points in 2 years your license will be revoked, this happened to me 6 weeks before the end of the probation period. I had to get a provisional and retake my test - don't let it happen to you, I felt humiliated been a learner again. I am so careful know as I still have 6 points on my license and if I get another 6 I will be banned this time.

what were they doing in the van? just sitting there or did it look like they had a speed gun pointing at you?
Chances are they were just sitting there and not looking for speeders. My advice would be to keep your eyes open, Police vans are exactly difficult to miss
