I've got a N reg Vectra 1.7TD that I no longer need. The brakes are on the way out (have to push foot all the way down and still they aren't great) and there's a minor grinding noise on the rear drivers side. It's due MOT in September so not sure what to do. Should I sell it and make the potential buyer aware of the problems or just scrap it? If I sell it what is it worth?

Scrap Value you are looking at probably £40 - £60.

Whilst it still has some MOT, I would try and sell it. Be honest in your description and with the buyers. You should get more than £60 for it this way. Does it have Tax, as that is worth money to you or the buyer.

It's taxed till January.

I'd eBay it unless you live in a particularly remote location. Describe it accurately and honestly, and someone should pay more than scrap value for it. If it was me I'd send the tax back for a refund once you've sold the car.

Does Anglesey count as remote? Probably, so I'm not sure eBay will work, although, it's worth a try I guess.

I'd put it on ebay myself. Be honest and you shouldn't have a problem. As for the tax, put in the listing that it is extra on top of the price of the car, that way you won't have people put off by the hassle of moving it on a trailer or getting it taxed straight away, which is a nightmare if you used a direct insurace company and have to wait for a cover note in the post.

A mechanic I know in york sold a vectra on ebay last year, spares repair, no tax, no MOT, and worse brakes than the one car metioned by the OP, I don't know the exact price, but it was over £100.

How much to get the brakes and "minor grinding" fixed? If it's just a set of pads or so, it might be worth fixing, MOTing and selling with a years ticket?

Managed to get £450 for it last night - made the buyer very aware that the brakes needed work and the rear bearings. Buyer was a mechanic who is going to do the work himself :)
