Free online courses

Hi all,

Stumbled across this on another site and thought some of you might be interested - the Barnes and Noble University!

You can sign up for free online courses, such as vegetable gardening, beauty techniques, money management (like some of you really need that!) and writing for cash, etc. They do say you need to buy a textbook for the course but I read on the other site that you can get enough useful information from the online course alone, so there's generally no need to buy the book unless you're really interested.

I've signed up for my first course (Beauty: The Basics) which is due to begin on August 7th. I'll post an update to let you know if it's any good.

Black-saturn: I don't think so, it doesn't seem to say on the site. I'm just doing it for my own self-development, though, so certs are not important to me.

From what I can see, the courses mention that you should buy the suggested course material that will be used throughout the course.

Your instructor has chosen these materials for in-depth use in this course and will refer to them in lessons and reading assignments. These materials are also used for class lessons, assignments and message board discussions. You should obtain these materials before your course session begins.

I can guess that it may be fruitless trying to follow the course unless you buy the book? Or am I just being cynical...

Edited: oops sorry, i see that the OP has already mentioned this in their post and it's suggested it may still be worthwhile even if you don't buy the material.

You must pay more attention than me because I just went through the whole thread and didn't spot the post. :)

Anyway, normally an address looks something like:-

some_website.co.uk

or even:-

some_website.co.uk/index.html


In some cases there are websites where an individual can earn money or credits if they can make other people visit the site concerned. These are known as referrals. In order for the company to know who it was that got the new visitor onto the site the link has an ID code added on to it, so the address would now become something like:-

some_website.co.uk/index.html?&id=gty67d

This is the sort of address that you originally posted, and I see that pink winged has clipped the extra bits off the one in your post when she moved it across.

It's easy to get caught out. Honest :)
