Hey everyone,

I know im not meant to ask on here for medical advice...and im not..

I was just wondering if anyone knew a lot about Glandular Fever. Basically i contracted it in early june and have been feeling ok since mid June. Now when is it ok for me to start consuming alcohol again?

I've looked at a few sites and they all give different time limits, and when it says for example "no alcohol for 4 weeks" is that 4 weeks from the start of the virus or after?

Thanks for any help its really appreciated,

n:)

I got it once, but that was when I was 16 so alcohol wasn't a regular thing then. All I know is that I was wiped out for about a year and it took me a long time to recover if I overdid it. Not much help, I know, sorry.

Like you I couldn't find a definitive answer regarding resuming alcohol.
It looks like Glandular Fever affects the liver and drinking alcohol aggravates that effect.

How you personally are affected by GF can only be determined by your health professional in consultation with you, so wether you just avoid alcohol for a month, six weeks, eight weeks or as long as you are still feeling the effects, is dependant on your personal circumstances.

As many people feel ill with GF for over a year some would say, you should err on the safe side and avoid alcohol for as long as possible and to go very easy when you do start drinking again.

Getting your immune system strong again should be a priority, so plenty of sunshine to build up your vitamin D reserves is particularly important with GF as the Epstein Barr virus is implicated in the later development of MS and low levels of vitamin d are also associated with MS.

Thank you for your suggestions and help they really are helpful :)

I sat in the sunshine today as said so hope that helps!, im going to speak to my GP tomorrow and hopefully in a few weeks i might have a drink but its really not essential to my life so if they tell me not to i'll leave it!

Any more suggestions or advice appreciated,
