In the Motoring Section of today's Daily Telegraph:

Toyota is offering two-day test drives to potential buyers (that's all of us no doubt :D ?) of the Yaris supermini. The contact number that enables you to in effect rent a car free of charge for 2 days is 0845 275 5555.

That is what I'd like to know, and also if you have to refill it with petrol before you give it back... :D

Just booked mine, enquired about a deposit and the answer was no, and the lovely guy checked the Ts and Cs about refilling with petrol - he said he couldn't see anything, but I might double check that

That's good if you dont have to refill it with Petrol. Vauxhall do the same for any of their cars for 3 days I think

I currently have the Toyota Aygo (even smaller) out on a Toyota 2 day test drive. There wasn't a deposit as such, but we did hve to agree to a credit card swipe with authorization to take up to £250 if there was any damage. They gave it to us with the bare minimum of petrol in it, so then we just added what we thought we'd need at the petrol station (we put £7 worth in).
If you need a car for a couple of days or are considering buying one of the Toyotas I'd definately reccomend it. We picked it up Sunday morning, and we're returning it tonight, so we're getting much more than 48 hrs use. We were considering getting an Aygo, and this has convinced us, we really want one now, so hopefully we'll be able to sort one out ASAP.

yes i phoned up- they want a £250 deposit but its not actually taken- mainly they want your card details- but of course you are gonna be responsible for any damage, parking tickets, speeding fines. Thanks for the info on the petrol.

One more thing- is there a milage restriction? I know im being cheeky but was hoping to take the car to london about a 500 mile round journey from my area.
Thanks

Thats a good question - I want to go to Bedford and back if I get it on the w/e I want it - 200 miles in all. If I remember I will ask when the local dealer calls me

There was no milage restriction on ours. The only restrictions were that you hadn't had more than one accident or 3 penalty points (or something similar) in the last 3 years and were over 21.
We returned it last night with no problems at all. Only problem is that I fell madly in love with the cr and miss it now it's gone. Not much of a problem as I arranged to buy one tody - very excited!!

Sleepy - do you have to have been driving a certain length of time for insurance purposes? I've only been driving 10 mths and my mum pointed out that they may need me to have been driving for a year.

I think there was something like that, but I can't remember quite what the requirement was, sorry. When I arranged mine, they were really friendly, so why not call up or go along and ask.

Naughty- you have to have being driving for 2 years - no more than 6 points and they ask about any convictions.

Again thanks for the tip- just saved a fortune on car rental!

Thanks anyway OP - will have to give them a call and cancel tomorrow.

Quite surprised the bloke on the 0845 number didn't ask that in fact.

Worth noting that you don't even have to ring up and book. We were looking at the Aygo and noticed a sign for the 2 day test drives, 1/2hr later we were driving off in one. You do need to take along your whole driving liscence (both paper and photo card for those of us with the new style ones) and proof of your address from the last 6 months, eg bank statement or bill.

the deposit- is the money deducted from your debit/credit card? do you sign or tap in your pin or are your details off the card recorded.

Also what was the miliage like on the car given to you during the test drive? ive heard you should take a new car on a motorway/ do over 50 miles per hour in it.

ive heard you should take a new car on a motorway/ do over 50 miles per hour in it.

That stems from the older cars when they needed running in and for the first 500 miles you shouldn't go over 50 MPH. New cars are built to not need running in so there's nothing to worry about now :D

This is perfect as our car is going in for MOT this afternoon so we would have been stuck without one for the weekend. When I rang the 0845 number they said you need to book 5 days in advance, but if you ring the dealership directly they can do one straight away.

Most cars these days have a running in period of 1000 miles, where you're not supposed to rev it too hard, and change up a bit earlier than usual.

Hey.

If I took one of these babies for a test drive am I covered under the insurance from the main dealer? i.e. third party. Obviously if there is any damage then I have to pay?

Also, when they swipe the card, does there have to be £250 in the account of just swipe to check that you have money?

Cheers

Hmmm wonder if they would have automatic cars to test.. I can only drive an automatic :rotfl: Wonder if I'll get round to taking my test in a 'proper car' and stop being a lazy driver  :D
Thanks for this, will call my local dealer and ask :j
