I have been driving for 11 years claim free (from 17) with my own comprehensive insurance and have recently protected my no cliams bonus. i was thinking of selling my car as i don't use it that much but have been told by my current insurers (Tesco) that i will lose my no claims entitlement after 2 years of not having insurance and will revert to 0 years no claims bonus. Is there any way around this??

Hi - what Tesco are saying is correct as most companies only allow NCD within 2 years of your cancelling a policy. However even if you had not had a car within the last 2 years many companies would still allow you a substantial introductory discount on a new policy.

As far as I know this has been the norm since before I started driving (70s). It may not be as bad as it sounds though.
In two years time you'll be 30 (sorry to mention it but it's good for insurance) and probably get an introductory bonus with your next insurance equal to a few years NCB.
