Lavender oil is supposed to help, they sell it at Boots or Holland and Barratt.

i also heard about lavender. u can put a couple drops on pillow and a few drops in a bath and have that before bed. i not sure on where to get it ho, sorry.

the only way i can sleep at night is if i have the fan going all night. as even in the heat i can only sleep if i snuggle under a duvet. i have to snuggle which is a nightmare in the summer

Try this

Holland and Barret are good for oils and I like Tisserand.
Don't but the cheaper oils they are not so good.

Lavendar really does work. I was very sceptical but slept like a log the first time I used it - I still put it down to coincidence, but it works every time. Don't use too much, just two drops on your pillow should do the trick ;)

I rub it on my feet. There was an interview on local news a while ago with a lavender farmer and he said it never fails and it does help me.

would this help with children. i have a daugther who will be 3 in october and some night she is so tired she can't sleep. would a couple of drops on her pillow help her doze off.

we have a lavender shop up the road from me , they make lavender everything. even lavender scones and butter i been told.

Boots do oils - their sleep range is very good too.

They used to do a Basil and lavendar? cream in a tube that you heated up - in the tube in hot water and then you rub in over your shoulders.

We lost my dad on boxing day last year an mum wasn't sleeping well - a friend bought her some of this - she was very impressed!

As far as your daughter is concerned yes I put Lavender oil on my childrens' beds. Lots of bedtime bath and soothing massage lotion for babies include lavender and chamomile.

This is a fantastic buy (http://www.summernaturals.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=68&products_id=233)
I bought some myself last week for the sole purpose of helping induce sleep

Too much Lavender though and it has the opposite effect so be carefull, only buy good oils as the others wont work.

Benzoin has a very sedative quality.

I agree about lavender. It's very relaxing. But I wouldn't use an oil burner when going to sleep just incase I fell asleep with it still burning. (I had an incident with a pillow catching fire on a candle once!)

I have been dropping a couple of drops of Olbas Oil on the side of my sheet lately as I am all stuffy from hayfever. I am finding it very soothing.

Less is more
I've read that the quantity of Lavender matters...1 drop seems to be the recommended dose for relaxation, a few drops of a good Lavender oil can get you buzzing! Apparently there's a lot more in yer essential oil than just smell. A good book to read is the 'Fragrant Pharmacy' for the full lowdown on essential oil.

Not all Lavender is created equal
We use an organic oil which seems to smell stronger and the good news to us moneysavers is that it lasts for ages because we use just 1 drop in the children's bath before bed and 1 drop on 1 of the pillows fills the room.

The cheap preparations often use something called 'Lavandin' - smells like Lavender but it ain't the real deal people. I believe it's called a 'chemical similar' and is a waste product from industry.

Having a bedtime routine also helps to programme the mind for sleep i.e.:
Going to bed at the same time every night
Reading a book (a nice fantasy, not 'quantum physics for beginners') gets your mind in imagination/dream mode. Putting a drop of Lavender oil inside the book also helps get you in the mood while you read.

Happy dreaming...
