Download msn plus off www.msgplus.net then whenever someone walk up on you press ctrl and space and it will hide all the windows and the little icon in the tray bar (near the clock) but it will still keep it running so you will still be online but you wont be able to see it on the computer until you clik back onto the little grey diamond and presto its BACK!!

Why not just press the Windows Icon and D, that closes all windows to the desktop.

Its an alternative. :)

The windows key and M will minimise as many windows/programs you have open down to the taskbar and still keep them open. You don't need any downloads for this.

it doesnt just minimise it it removes it from the taskbar, but when you click the grey icon which has replaced the little green man in the tray icon they reappear. :S:S

Or you could install virtual desktops, and have a completely sep desktop for "work" "play" "games" etc. That what I do, its installed on linux by default, I believe microsoft offers a very poor version of it (probably going to be touted in vista) for XP, but programs are available at download.com if you search for "virtual windows".

I know you can hide everything in each virtual window from another, including taskbar entries.

I would not install this, how can you trust a software supplier that originally hid the fact that they were bundling Spyware with their product ??

this is what it bundles

http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/lop/

Lop.com has become one of the most hated names on the internet. All over cyberspace, from message boards to newsgroups to IRC chat rooms I've seen people begging for help in getting rid of this annoying software.
What is lop.com? Lop.com is a web site owned by C2 Media. It is mainly a pay-per-click search portal where other web sites pay for each click-through to their site via lop. This isn't a terrible idea, but rather than create a quality web site to get surfers to their site and clicking those links, they instead created a program which is labeled variously as an mp3 search program, a porn search program, or some other such thing. The installer turns the user's web browser into a device with a seemingly endless supply of links to lop.com.

Not completely correct. The installer turns Internet Explorer into a device with a seeminly endless supply of links to lop.com....If you dont run that then you wont be affected.

Just a quick mention on the side of this one. If like me you can't access MSN Messenger from work through your firewall/proxy server, try E-Messenger (http://www.e-messenger.net/). It also runs Yahoo messenger. :p

None really. windows D takes you to the desktop. Windows M minimizes all open windows (leaving you at the desktop).

You end up with the same result.

I've been using msn plus for ages and i've never had a problem with spyware, i scan my computer using ad-aware about once a week and it never normally highlights more than my cookies for deletion.

Msn plus doesnt just do thinks like minimising msn (although when it does you can actually get it to change the icon so no1 even sees the lil bloke in the corner - and u can have it password protected to reopen again) it has loads of cool extras like being able to play seperate noises for different contacts, having multi-coloured display names, more advanced chat logs (password protected), you can set your own names to appear for different people (so whatever their screen name is it always shows you the name u set for them). There are loads of things, and you can get even more plugins for it that give you loads of things like sound packs and ping tests, the best plugin being the Stuff plug which gives functions like being able to set your own size for your display pictures and it also allows you to have upto something like 5000 characters in one got compared to the like 500 msn offers as standard.

Ive been using it for ages and never had a problem, but hey its up to you if you take it or not.

or, a very simple solution, if you are at school or work, and shouldnt be on MSN; then DONT GO ON MSN

if your so desperate that you can't bear to be away from MSN then you might aswell stay home from school or not work because your only wasting your time - get lives.
