I never got the point in those stickers... can anyone explain?
If I am about to crash into the back of 2 cars and have to pick, it might be useful, but chances are, I'm not going to notice the sticker until I'm too close to change my mind anyway.

Thanks for that. Just ordered 20 as I have 4 friends who are either pregnant or have just had babies and 2 of them run a Rainbows group so thought they could hand out accordingly.

Because it's important that other drivers are aware of the precious load you are carrying. That's like saying 'What's the point with a fire warning symbol on a fuel tanker'!

theyre not for other drivers, theyre for emergency services! if you put one up when youre driving with your baby and you crash and youre unconscious, the fire/ambulance will know to look for a baby if you cant tell them, thats the point, to save a babys life

An urban myth!
I'm sure this has been reported in an earlier thread on the same subject.
If you are really concerned about safety, keep clear of putting any sorts of stickers in any of the screens of a car, particularly the rear windscreen - you need as much unobscured visibility as you can get, front, side, and back, and these wretched things are a hazard, not a help.

It IS an urban myth. http://www.snopes.com/horrors/parental/babysign.htm
All services are trained to look for individuals whether there is a sign there or not. If that were the case then you would have to take the sign out every single time you went out without your little one. And we would also have signs saying how many babies/children/oaps/people were in the car too. It is to make other drivers aware although all drivers should be aware of other cars no matter who is in them. They were and are a great money making idea based on peoples fears. Although it is nice to see the silly ones too! :D

I'm with you on this one the sticker on the car in front does not make me drive any differently, if I was a bad driver I'd be just as likely to crash into them. I think they are there to signal to other drivers that the driver will not be fully concentrating on the road as they have a baby/toddler in the car. Before I get flamed for this please let me say I have a toddler and am forever taking my eyes off the road to see what he is up to in the back! Maybe I should have a sticker.

What, are you saying that babies are more "precious" than, say an older child or even an adult? I think the only reason people have these stupid signs is to smugly show off that they managed to procreate. Well, good for you!

I find these signs really annoying, might as well have a stickers saying 'over protective mother onboard'.

Does that mean I have to remove my "mother in law in trunk" sign when I finally dispose of the body? :j
I think the signs are a nonsense, but I love the idea of the "window pens" that they were also giving away free on this site mentioned by the OP (shame they've run out now :o)

Firstly, I am not going to get into a disagreement because someone's taken what I said the wrong way. Secondly, I never said anything of the sort. You can get 'Child on Board' stickers if you so wish. I was simply stating the fact that our children are very precious. How can I be slammed for that?? Thirdly, knowing the fact that the emergency services are trained to look for bodys not some silly sign, I was giving the true explination for someone's question.
I think everyone should climb down of the soapboxes now, we don't want to detract from the reason of the thread.

after reading all your posts and feeling a bit disheartened i decided to speak to my local fire and rescue service turns out that whilst yes they are trained to look for every eventuality they take even more notice of baby on board signs because say a baby isn't straped in properly they know that the person carrying the signs is likely to have a child on board and can consentrate on looking under items in the vehicle and around the scene of the accident because as the chap i spoke to said all life is precious an adult if not unconsious can scream for help a baby wouldnt know any thing was wrong and so may not make any noise at all anyway i thought martin says to be nice to all money savers
my personal view is if you dont like something you should either ignore it or tell a moderator after all lifes better when we all get on

Picking up the last point first, I think you'll find that most people on this thread are following that and the "if you don't agree, attack the post not the poster" principle, which is fine for a healthy debate.
With that in mind, I'm sorry but I find your post scarcely credible. It worries me that any genuine "fire and rescue" person would give such awful advice or be so lacking in basic knowledge about his/her own profession.
Anyone with even the basic rudimentary knowledge of rescue work knows that it is not the people screaming you worry about first - adult or child. It is about making a thorough search and assessment of how many people are involved and dealing with the silent ones first.
I refer you also back to my earlier post about these wretched and dangerous signs.
As they don't even appear to arrive (perhaps that's a good thing!) perhaps this thread should be now closed?

I agree about the post attack. No-one is attacking any post/poster, just giving our own opinion on the use of the signs. And no-one is 'not being nice'
However, I don't think the rescue professional meant that they use the signs as a pure signal. They probably meant that if they're there, the will use them as an indication. Otherwise, they will do the usual bottom to top search. It's good that the signs are used for that reason but I doubt they're relied on too much. Putting that advice together, I think most of our opinions have turned out to all be true in one way or another :)
I don't think the thread should be removed just because there's disagreement over the use. It's for parents to make their own decisions about.
Thanks for taking the time to find out that info Phil.

Just to clarify - I did say "closed" NOT removed. The discussion has been had and people can make their own decisions as you say.
...or of course anyone may choose to toot your horn loudly in future at any car you see on the road carrying one of these dumb signs!! :D :D
