this is just for the individuall person who wants a choice rather than buying blindly (as i'm no activist or gravedigger and will be using this)

Thanks for that Phil. Its great to get these posts so that we can make a choice of what we buy, a bit like msn really!

which lists all the companies that are approved
...do they have an unapproved list? (and employees & directors home addresses, plans of gravesites etc. etc.!). Some subject matter should be avoided in forums such as this (far too emotive!). This is a light-hearted FREEBIE forum and just a bit of fun for most - political & activist forums for such offers can be found elsewhere.
I'm sure many will find it hard to resist a follow-on posting (I told you it was emotive!) but those who manage to show more metal than they realise.
Regardless of any follow-on postings I shall not be posting further replies in this thread. I've made my point once, on behalf of many, and have now let it go.
Just to let people know, BUAV are not an extremist organisation. Just a list of which products you can buy which have definitely not been tested on animals.

a great freebie, it's good to be able to make and educated choice and i think posts about opinions on this are uncalled for, phil didn't give opinion when he posted, so why do follow ups have to.

Thanks for this; I like to know that what I'm buying hasn't been pointlessly tested on animals. I think a certain, well publicised "medical trial" proves several points! :D

All my kids insist that I buy from companies that do not test on animals!!
Thank you OP!
We are all entitled to our opinions but I thought England was a country of animal lovers!!
I am not vegetarian, myself, but I don't think you should have a go at those that are. The Op was only trying to help someone with similar views to theirs, at no point did they put across their opinion!!!
I must add that even though I am not vegetarian I do NOT believe in harming animals and therefore, I am happy to hear of and buy from people that do not test on animals. It is cruel!!
There are plenty of products available that won't give you red eyes!!!!!!!(please see needstoknow). It is everyones choice, but some people are so hard!!

And you would rather those things happen to humans than animals. I don't really believe that they "pointlessly" test on animals. In fact the testing does have a point or else it wouldn't be any kind of test at all. I believe this is an oxymoron.

Did anybody else read that as a free little book all about cruelty?
I was looking forward to it :(

As a scientist, I thought I would add the following to spice up the debate, and potentially open myself up to loads of abuse:
http://www.peoplespetition.org.uk/
http://www.pro-test.org.uk/
[I am in no way affiliated to these organisations, and in fact have just ordered the cruelty-free book for myself].

i posted this as a choice for others who dont want to buy products tested on animals not for people to start mass debates if this carries on i'll edit my post and remove the links as this post does not reflect my personal views in any way

I hope you don't have to remove it just because of one or two prejudiced individuals that feel the need to stir up arguments.
It's a good freebie, I feel more ethical already, and I haven't even got it yet!

Which individuals are being prejudice? I personally feel there is nothing unethical about animal testing.

Thank you for the link, I've also visited another great wesbite - Animal Aid's one - I got a vegetarian booklet through and have decided to change my eating habits to not include animals (who've been through the mill (literally)).

My answer to your question would be, yes, I would rather people suffer than testing on animals be permitted. Animals don't need make-up or shampoo etc. Hence, pointless testing. If humans want to test these things, why not use death row inmates? They're going to die anyway. Why subject an innocent life to tourture for something that's never going to benefit it's species?
Your whole argument hinges on the assumption that humans are "better" than animals and that animals aren't living, feeling members of our planet.
As for the amimal testing not being pointless, why is it then that ALL drugs have warnings about side-effects? Why do hair colourants contain warnings about possible reactions? Why does some make-up affect people in different ways (breathing, blistering skin etc)? If these things have shown no reaction in animals and are "safe" for humans to use, how come they still cause these effects in humans?
Answer: because humans aren't small, furry creatures. We're not the same as rats, mice and rabbits, let alone dogs or any other creature you care to mention.
Unfortunaly there are always going to be people who think tourture and suffering of others is a good thing. Thankfully, there are many more of us who believe the opposite...

All drugs will be tested on animal models in Phase I/II trials. They are so successful I can scarcely put it into words. Of course there are anomalies, like the 'well publicised medical trial', that will always be the case.
Only an idiot thinks humans are superior to animals. Animal drug testing is unpleasant but the benefits speak for themselves. I bet fenris has lost count of the number of drugs he has used that wouldnt exist without these trials.
Until we get a better alternative, the tests continue.
Fenris, didnt you ever cut up a rat in school?

Just search for Seroxat on google to see how good animal testing can be.

The booklet is mostly for finding cosmetic products not tested on animals. Many people would happily go without lipstick which has been tested on animals. Medical testing is a different issue I think.
All my kids insist that I buy from companies that do not test on animals!!

Whereas we in Scotland regularly chase the haggis round the hillside with our machetes...

No! Thankfully it was removed from the curriculum before I even started school! If I were asked to I'd've refused; there are plenty of drawings, plastic models, video footage etc to show what goes where and why it's so.
As for drugs, yes I expect I have taken drugs that heve been tested on animals; it's not something I'll ever be proud of. However, most of the drugs I've been prescribed had their testing period before I was born, which means I'd've had very little say in how they were tested. I'm not happy that they were tested on animals, but it's been and gone. The creatures are dead now and their suffering ended. I'm saying there's no need for it in this day and age. There are better alternatives, but the we-need-our-daily-dose-of-tourture brigade refuse to use them. For most ailments I use non-prescribed homeopathic remedies.
Anyway, I really don't want to drag this argument out; there are those who agree with animal testing and there are those of us who think it's cruel and unnecessary and never the twain shall meet. Certainly not on this forum!
