Trying to find an insurer that would put my son on my insurance as a occasional driver on a Golf GTI cabriolet. Does qualify for classic insurance as it is 15 years old. I`ve tied Carol Nash and Firebond. OH bought the car to do up and sell on but son who is 21 would like to drive it at weekends.

Herts Insurance (HIC) are good for performance VW's & young drivers. Elephant are often OK as long as the car isn't modified in any way (including non-standard wheels - fairly common on old GTI's). As for classic policies, I'd try Lancaster.

I'm afraid you'll have to google for phone numbers.

These are amongst the best and are widely used by sports car owners.Adrian Flux______________08700 777240 AON _____________________01384 552670 A-Plan __________________0845 0711234 Bell Direct _____________0800 140180 Bennetts ________________0800 0683077 Crownthorne Insurance____01344 771626 Egg _____________________0870 0240095 Fast Track ______________0118 9502155 Footman James ___________0121 561 6250 Hill House Hamond _______01733 310899 Hyperformance ___________0208 9393944 Keith Michaels __________0208 642 7868 Martin Gray Insurance ___01481 728072 Performance Insurance ___01234 242900 Privilege Insurance _____0845 2460295 Tett Hamilton ___________01275 792270 Sky Insurance ___________020 8364 5500

I'd second either adrian flux or elephant as being well worth a go for young drivers with fast cars.

You could always put all your details into www.confused.com and let them do the donkey work. Once it comes up with its best quote, go to the relevant site and get a re-quote making sure you fine tune all the details as it may reduce the premium even further.
