Car scratches - how to remove?

We just got a brand new VW Golf a couple of weeks ago and noticed, when we first saw it in bright daylight at Easter, that there are quite a lot of fine scratches in two main clusters. (Don't ask me how they got there - I'm always careful about where I park, cleaning it etc.) Can anyone recommend a product for polishing or blending these out please. The paint is steel grey metallic. Any advice appreciated.

I'd talk to the garage and say that given the light and weather, they were impossible to see when you collected the car.

you might be surprised; they will certainly be able to buff them out if they're fine ;)

my dad used to be a panel beater and sprayer. he would say t-cut , but if its very light should polish out with some auto glim.

Actually my son has been trying to persuade me to take it up with the garage but I thought I'd have no come-back having accepted the car. However, with you, Lob, also suggesting this I have decided to contact them first. I've nothing to lose. If that fails I might try the Auto Glym or T-Cut (or pay the garage if it's not expensive!).

Talk to the supplying dealer, this is too regular a thing, with new cars - they'll polish it PROPERLY for you, rather than risk spoiiling your paintwork, trying on your own.

Then take a peek in www.meguiars.co.uk check the hints n tips on keeping your car like new!!

See if you can buy their products from an independent car parts store & get a discount - it's a premiuim priced range, with good margins for them. Failing that Halfords stock it too.

Beats Autoglum & you'll be surprised at how easy it is to use!!

Try cleaning it with a clay bar, then polishing it out some Autoglym or Meguiars. Failing that try some Super Swirl Remover or if you cant get any of that some T-cut although this is quite abrasive.

In future buy a wool wash mitt - dont use a sponge and rinse the car before you wash it.

Someone "keyed" (?) the B pillar on my car a few days ago and scratched up and down a few times what's the best way of removing it? It's not particularly superficial unfortunately.

Its a bar of clay specially made for cleaning cars.

Good news - I followed Lob's advice and contacted my VW supplier. They insisted that their checks would have spotted any scratches before I took delivery but to show goodwill they sorted out the problem areas while I waited. They washed the car and used Auto Glym. The result is very good, almost perfect. Looking closely I can still see very, very faint marks but only because I'm looking for them. It's a good result and I'm delighted. All's well that ends well!
