I got my reminder to tax my bike (300cc).The form said it was £30,but when I got to the post office they said it was £31.Good job I had a bit extra on me.If you pay on-line,they charge £2.50 extra for using a credit card.
Thanks for the reminder. I just checked the post and my bike is up for renewal this month. Interestingly the form says £60 but the DVLA website says £62.
That's still a bargain though. I pay less tax for an 1150cc monster bike that does 0-60mph in 3 seconds than I would for a Fiesta, yet I can use bus lanes and park anwhere I want to for free. And if that isn't enough the icing on the cake is riding past and laughing at all the motorists stuck in their cars in west country traffic jams over the bank holiday weekend.
I wonder how many "thanks" I'll get for this post? :D

You can't use buslanes legally on a bike, unless, weirdly they allow motorbikes specifically.

bus lanes in northern ireland let bicycles and motorbikes into them.
thanks for the heads up re the tax increase, mine is up at the end of the month (£31 tax, insurance is £94... tell me again, why do i bother with a car that is 14 years old yet costs almost six times the bike to tax and insure....?!)

That's a really good point. Bristol & Bath near where I live both allow motorbikes in bus lanes. London doesn't, which can be tricky if you ride in a bus lane and get caught on camera. Luckily the few times that I have done it I haven't been caught. Transport For London is looking into the issue and may (eventually) allow bikes to use bus lanes - http://www.tfl.gov.uk/streets/motorcycle-buslane-study.shtml

I do agree they should be allowed to nationwide.

The government shoud override the local councils and set a standard for motorbikes in bus lanes, as it it unfair on bikers from out of the city to fine them for something they would do everyday at home completely legaly.
