I'm looking to buy a car, but when a car's ad states that it has been taxed does it mean that there are registration plates on it so that I can drive it away? Thank you.

Registration plates = number plate
Taxed = vehicle licence duty (the little tax disc you see on the bottom corner of windscreen)

If it's taxed and MOT'd, you;d be able to drive it away. :)

Thanks Noozan for clarification Noozan. It's been taxed and motted but there are no plates on the car in the advertisement? So clearly I can't drive it away without number plates or can I?

I'm waiting for seller's response in the meantime.

Perhaps the seller has just removed them from the photo for security whilst advertising - so that no one can clone or trace his address without his knowledge.

It has to have a number in order to be tax'd if it is a new car it won't need an MOT for 3 years.

Sounds to me like it's a used car and the plate is removed for *whatever* reason.

When you look at the car, make sure the plate matches with the registration docment, and the chassis number on the document matches the one on the car, and the address on the document is the address you are buying it from, unless it's a bonafide business premises. And the MOT is the right model and plate No. aswell.

Could be that it had personal number and that means waiting on new number from DVLA
