View Full Version : How to remove a car stereo

Hi,

My car is being scrapped tomorrow and I thought I'd remove the car stereo beforehand. It's a Ripspeed CMR-2000 and the instruction booklet says to insert the two supplied keys 'until they lock' and then slide out the unit. After several attempts to slide the keys into the appropriate place, there is no locking and the thing isn't budging! There are two notches visible on each side that seem to go horizontally behind the dash but there is no sign of them moving.

Any advice? Halfords originally fitted it so I was going to ask them to look at it but if they charge £20 to remove it then it's hardly worth the bother.

Thanks in advance.

Andy

SLide the keys in till the edges can be moved down / up to catch the lugs and pull.

Ask a passing 15 year old, they'll have it out in seconds

Brute force and ignorance works for me. And if its going to be scrapped anyway, wouldn't worry about busting the dash.
