3/ im starting to pick at snacks during the day and im hoping with drinking the water it`ll help me get back on track with my weight loss i dont want to loose much weight cos if i do my dress wont fit but just dont want to put anymore on ,
does any1 think drinking 1.5l water a day will help
i know its not a mirical worker but even if it raises my energy levels it would have helped cos i dont drink enough water its all coffee :o!!!!!!!!!!!

1.5 litres? That's close to the bare minimum you need to help your kidneys to function properly. Ideally aim for over 2 litres per day. Your skin, liver, kidneys and other bits will thank you.

I don't get why people find it so hard to drink enough water. If you were stranded in the middle of nowhere with no supplies for 24 hours, believe me you would not want a cup of coffee!! Your body would crave pure fresh water and you would be very aware of it. Water is life. We cannot survive without it. It is also the most refreshing drink there is. Learn to love it.

You can still have coffee and tea, just try to limit it to 1-2 cups a day (and not too strong). Also try to eat water-rich foods e.g. most fruit and vegetables. Perhaps try sugar-free cordial to jazz your water up a little now and then. Experiment with temperatures - some people like their water ice cold, others at room temperature or somewhere in between. This can make a big difference to your enjoyment!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

(never heard of the Volvic challenge by the way)

I'm doing it actually. Day 6 and all I am doing is peeing alot more!!!

I can't stand water, I hate the taste and texture of it although strangely I do enjoy Volvic as it doesn't leave a questionable taste in my mouth and furry teeth.

I also drink alot of tea and I know that tea is included in your daily amounts but I am trying to also drink 2 small bottles (which is 1 litre in total) and then I will step up.

I am actually enjoying it and I do feel a bit better for it. I have a disability which makes me very tired anyway but I do think my eyes are sparkling a bit more and I defo noticed the dark lines under my eyes reducing.

I am going to carry on. A small challenge has turned into a lifestyle change:D

Perhaps try sugar-free cordial to jazz your water up a little now and then.

Sugar free cordials are never sugar free - they are full of artifical sweetners and there hasn't been enough research to find out what effect they have on the body - but it does say on bottles not to give to children under 3 as it may cause a stomach upset....so you can draw your own conclusions what it does to your insides!!!!!!

Sugar is a pure and natural source so if cordial is going to be used then the sugared version should always be used;) ( I work in teaching dental health)

iirc it used to be 0.6 fl ounces of water per pound of body weight.

So if you're 140 pounds (10 stone)

35 fluid ounces in a one litre, so that meant 4 litres a day!!

I used to do this, but I did find I spent half my time weeing!

You are of course quite right. I don't drink the stuff myself, I am lucky enough to like the taste of pure unadulterated water and don't like drinking weird chemicals. Others may need weaning onto water (so to speak!) which is why I suggested it. I did say 'from time to time', not 'every day', if someone drinks cordial at all it should only be occasional.

For the same reason, I wouldn't drink water with a squeeze of lemon as I would be concerned about the acid damage. IMHO, herbal tea is the next best thing to water so that would obviously be a far better choice. But thanks again for your post.

To those who are peeing more, that is a good sign! Your urine should be paler in colour as well, also a good sign. Keep at it, you will find that you need to pee less and less as time goes on.

I drink about 3-4 small water bottles anyway when at work - teaching shreds yer throat so I always have one on the go. Never made much difference to my health though.

I think I should try this. I'm one of those people that don't drink enough. I regularly get to the afternoon- maybe 4-5pm and realise I've not had a single drink all day. I'm often tired and I have quite bad skin and I know it's down to this. It's ridiculous really so I need to get into the habit of drinking more!

Also, thank you for the cordial info- I always go for sugar free as I thought that I was being good to myself- obviously not!

I enjoy herbal teas too so maybe this will help me increase my fluid intake. And I'll start the volvic challenge!

i'd not heard of the volvic challenge, but i did decide 2 and half weeks ago to start drinking 2 litres of water a day (main reason was sick of seeing my blotchy skin) i wondered if it would make a difference so decided to give it a go (as its free!!..tap water for me!)

first day i thought i'd never manage..so boring, and used to drinking tea and coffee all day, but by day 3 drinking 2 litres inbetween 8am to 9pm is easy..i was beginning to think my body was craving it, so i googled and turns out your body does start to get used to it very quicky (which is why its easier after a few day)
i'm def peeing more! and its paler too, i'm definately less tired (especially in the evenings after tea) i've cut out so much tea and coffee as i seem not to crave it like i did before, and the other thing i;ve noticed (not sure if its related to water drinking) but things seem to taste more salty now???anyone else feel that?

my skin does look a bit better..but i think thats a lot to do with my cycle and hormones so i'm not expecting miracles, and as a bonus cos my kids see me drinking water all the time, they want to drink water too (rather than cordial) they must think i'm cool:D

glad i found this thread,:T as i was meaning to ask if anyone else drinks the recommended amount of water.

Too much water is as dngerous as too little. I used to drink a lot more than I do now, and due to medical advice cut down. For me somewhere between 2- 2.5 litres feels about right to me, I now become concerned if I notice in a sedentry dy I am heading over 3 litres. If I'm struggling to keep water intake up I make sure I'm having a glass every hour on the hour, but rarely do I have to think about it really.

I've seen the ad and tbh it makes me laugh... I really don't believe how great they suddenly feel :rotfl:... presumably these desirable effects can't be obtained with any other water? :D

I read this
http://calorielab.com/news/2006/05/28/8-glasses-of-water-a-diet-urban-legend/
around about the time that woman died because she drank too much water.

So put me down as a sceptic, although I don't doubt I should probably drink more!

I don't like drinking water that much. Thats why I find it hard. I don't sit at a desk all day and chasing round after 2 young kids I am lucky if I get to finish a cup of tea never mind any other drink.
As for plain tap water? urgh!!! Its minging.......
I do need to increase my intake but am dreading the constant peeing......

I'm like you with tap water - blee:eek:

And the peeing does calm down - I'm not peeing nearly as much as I was.

Look for offers in the supermarkets on bottled water as they all seem to do them :)

I watched a show on TV a while back and they looked at the claims about drinking lots of water. They used a set of identical twins and got them to continue with their normal lifestyle (which was pretty healthy) except with 1 twin she had to drink more water. After a period of time they did a load of blood tests etc. and found that the extra water had made not the slightest bit of difference other than she was constantly going to the loo!

There's no doubt that many people don't drink enough water but I think this is just a good marketing exercise by Volvic. It's a bit like the Special K challenge really.
