I have an 09 focus estate with no roof rails. I have been told I can fit foof bars with a fixing kit in to the threaded holes in the roof (after lifting a cover in the channel).
My question is these holes are covered with a mastik type material, does this all have to be removed, I have taken a bit out on one side and it is not easy to remove.
thanks

remove enough to get the screw in
when finished fill or cover with something suitable

When I did this I couldn't believe I was hacking bits out of a brand new car with a screwdriver and a stanley knife. It seemed such a bizarre thing to have to do, and doubting myself I was glad to finally find the screw at the bottom.
I don't know if it's still the same, but my focus has plastic plugs in the screw threads, which I replaced when I took the roofbars off. When I went to fit the bars back on around a year later a couple of the plugs has disintegrated, and it was an absolute nightmare to get them back out - So I would suggest covering with something other than the original plugs.

Thanks to both of you.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what to cover the holes with.
I could leave the bars on I guess, and use more fuel:eek:

Fill the holes with grease or vaseline and put some gaffer tape over them.

The fact that the Focus estate did not have roof rails fitted as standard was the deciding factor in my buying an alternative.
Useless to you I know but I thought I'd share it;););)
