Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me out here I'm sersiouly struggling with the cost of rail travel which i find stupidly expensive and no incentive whatsoever, but that's another rant!!

I need to get to work at 8pm and get back from when i finish at 8am, i work shifts for 4 nights then 4 off so this can be any day of the week. My journey is from Chorley at night to Manchester then Manchester to Chorley in the morning, generally getting the 7pm train there and the 8.20am train return.... due to the fact that i cant get a return on the cheap off-peak and getting a return on-peak is £10.50ish this becomes expensive over a month! Season tickets don’t seem to be much help either... Please can help would be fantastic of anyone here... i am extremely upset at paying ridiculous prices for a mediocre service!

And i have heard of someone that of you enrol on a course at a uni / college you get a free rail card ?

Thanks Mark

I could be wrong, but it might be cheaper to split your ticket - it's expensive because you're travelling from Lancs into G Manchester.

I think it's cheaper to pay for Chorley to Horwich Parkway, then Horwich Parkway to Manchester.

A monthly ticket, maybe? I'm not really certain, but I think that's the way my B-I-L does it.

They do weekly tickets for the £38 i said before so there is no great saving... to me you could drive for this!

Cycling is ok summer, not very nice when its !!!!ing it down!!! Good suggestions though, keep em coming!!

Been looking on the special offers and there seem to be some tickets for £2 from Manc o Blackrod... I'll inquire bout that!

That could be a good idea - at least as far as Blackrod, or Horwich Parkway. Then the train would be a lot cheaper.
