Hi all
If all cars (in my subject line) were the same price, would you opt for an i10 or an Aygo/107/C1? The later three being made in the same factory.
i10 has 5 year warranty with aircon/electric windows as standard. While the Aygo/107/C1 cars don't have these extras and come with 3 years.
What do you think? Worth going with the lesser known hyundai for the extras or not?
My preference is the Aygo but its not for me its for my 60 year old mother.
She currently drives an H reg polo, does lots of tiny drives around town in it and a fortnightly 40 mile drive on A roads. Never any motorways.

there will be a massive amount of difference between those cars and a 19 year old vw
i would just base it on the test drive she does

thanks. She had a few cars when she was younger, mainly all VW but I think I've convinced her to at least test drive all the above.

But might not last the 19 years the VW did...!
The Aygo will probably be better on fuel.I have been on the Hyundai forums lately researching th i10 and they say the claimed mpg is a bit bogus.People are getting mid 40s rather than the high 50s.
Also road tax from next year will be £20 for the Aygo and £30 for the i10 (119 co2) not a massive difference I know but both still much better than £120 (I think) for the old VW.

I have an Aygo Blue and it came with electric windows and air con as standard. Not bad for £8000. I havea severe case of lead feet and I easily get over 50mpg out of it, in a combination of city and motorway driving; on the motorway alone it's more like 60mpg.
I'd go for the Toyota mostly for re-sale value, though.

We have an Aygo - no i10 when we bought it, but the C1 and 107 were ruled out.
Toyota dealers provide excellent service, the servicing is cheaper than Citroen and Peugeot and the Toyota badge is a bonus when coming to sell.
Our Aygo has electric windows as standard and aircon as an extra.

I have a C1 now, less than a week old I paid £6395 on the road and I love it. I have already done a few hundred miles to test it out and am getting approx 69 MPG. It is possibly the easiest car I have ever driven.
The downside of the car for me is that I feel I sit quite low to drive it, but my OH loves that as it means a lot of headroom for him and he is 6ft 2. My other car is only a C3 and I sit much higher in that.
Like others have said though, test drive them all.

The C1 is the cheapest out of the C1/107/Aygo family, but it is also the cheapest to buy. Out of the three, it's depreciation factor is the least too (source: CAP).
At the start of the year, Citroen built a batch of special edition C1s called the Splash. They came in White and Metallic Blue. Standard kit includes Electric Windows, Remote Locking, A/C, and ABS with Stability Control. Contract Hire pricing is cheaper on these than lesser models, so all sources expect these to hold their money well.
There are still some Blue Cars about in the network if you are fast. List price after current offers is only £6795, and don't expect much off that as C1s are in very high demand compared to stock levels at the moment so dealers have no need to let vehicles go for a bargain price.
Just to confirm, all three vehicles have identical underpinnings and interiors. Bodyshells are the only thing that differs.

just an update to say she test drove the above and even a Scoda Fabia. She currently has her eyes on the Aygo Blue edition. I think she'd prefer black paint* but the blue edition has more features for the money. She'll be doing another test drive next week, touch wood.
* not to be confused with black edition, which is more expensive than Blue edition and doesn't have A/C standard.

If it was my mother - out of those you listed, I would suggest the Aygo - but I would rather she was in a bigger car. I would feel the same with my children too.
What about the Yaris? Its sturdier and has more room. The Fabia is a good car too.
Don't make her buy a car that is too small if that is not what she wants. No disrespect to anyone with Aygo sized cars, but I like a bit more comfort and feel safer in a bigger car.
Importantly, what does your Mum like best? Maybe like me, she has her eye on a Land Cruiser... ;)
Edit: And 60 is not old - its the new 40!

She picked the Aygo, even after driving a fabia which was a surprise. She liked the inside and the handling of it, she said the i10 felt too light to drive.
I'll have to ask her why she didn't prefer the fabia after test driving one. I know she does like the size of the small cars. Width wise they are all the same size including fabia, the fabia is only 0.3m longer. The aygo/i10 cars just seem smaller than they really are compared to the next class up.
Don't worry I am not forcing a car on her... I did kind of hope she picked the i10 though because I know she wants airconditioning and it was standard on the most basic model! :)
She is driving another aygo next week to double check.

Tell her to try putting her shopping in to the boot of an Aygo, the access is high and small, it is a bit like an opening rear window.
I would buy the i10, or better still the new i20, or a Yaris.

Agree - no boot at all!!
Is she buying from new? Maybe a Yaris a couple of years old? Nice easy to maintain cars and have more room. I call the Aygo a baby Yaris anyway - and I would not like to have one, but that is my personal point of view!! (Which counts for nothing :D)
Please say that she is not going for the manul/automatic gear box

The Aygo is nice to drive, that little 3 cyl engine being very flexible.
Just a thought, i hope the OP's Mum is taking advantage of the scrappage scheme.
EDIT..agree with Jeannie...don't go near that horrible automated manual box.

yeah well I just had a heated debate with her about different cars, and when her mind is made up, its made up!! I can actually get the fabia with metalic paint/AC cheaper than the Aygo Blue, which is currently the model she is eyeing up. I can even get a metalic painted Yaris (without A/C) for a few hundred more but she wasn't interested.
Its a mixture of her liking the size of the aygo for parking in town, she will really only go outside of town in it to see her mother and the odd trip to a neighbouring town. She liked how it fitted easily in her garage where as the fabia was a little harder. I should also note 99% of the time it will just be her the car, so she has the back for more space to carry stuff.
I, like you, want her to have a sturdier car (I drive a Civic, she and my nan like being a passenger) but for her she seems to like the little car.
I think she'll go manual but she is testing an auto on Monday.
Drivethedeal website seems to have excellent prices for cars, and you still pay your dealer in the offer! Aygo Blue after the scappage is still £300 cheaper than what a dealer will offer after scrappage. I was telling my mother about this and she felt sorry for the young guy who test drove her round in an aygo - she fears he'll won't get his commission. Dear god .... I'm on a budget!!!!! :)
How much do you think her insurance will be, she says she has no claims/high protected NCB?

We bought ours through drivethedeal - £700 off list, dealer offered £250. Insurance on ours is about £140 - wife has 5 years NCB and does low mileage.
Judging by comments ours must have the optional 'tardis boot' as two years ago it took our luggage (two cases) when we drove to the airport for a week abroad- and one of the three was our year old daughter who didn't travel lightly.

Ah excellent. Did you get it through your nearest dealer when you ordered online? I am just curious how far away your car came from.

Please don't let her get the manual/automatic (if you have the power of persuasion!). They are really awful gear boxes. If she is only going to keep it for a year or two, maybe not so bad.... They have dreadful 'lag' at times, change up or down when you don't want them too......
I've heard rumours that they will be scrapping these boxes in not too distant future. Kinda says it all..

I don't - I am sure there has been on here somewhere.
Reckon someone will come along soon with some!! Give it time!
Alternatively - do another thread asking for views and also google..

I had a test drive in a Toyota verso with MMT gearbox and it was horrendous, you had to remember to lift your foot off the accelerator when it was about to change gear, when I told the salesman I hated it he confessed he hated it as well and advised against buying it as the resale value would be a lot less than a manual (regardless of book value) as most customers didn't like them either.

I've got a manual Aygo Blue Slate, it's an excellent little car which regularly gives over 60mpg with my light foot

Just a heads up that after a douzen U-turn decisions, we've put a deposit down on an i10 classic with metalic paint.
She shortly gave up on the aygo after thinking about the cost and went after a used polo, but nothing came up at a sensible price in the south west where she lived. She badly wanted a car so took a few more test drives on the i10 and realised the boot space wasn't too bad an issue, especially as she won't have many passengers.
The funny thing is that the local dealer after doing all the hardwork with test drives and a sales pitch, decided to charge a credit card fee and 'preparation charge'. It really rubbed me up the wrong way so I tried dealers up to 30 miles away and found one who didn't charge any of the above and threw in mats as well!!! I was quite surprised about the card fees, they really do add up on 4 figure purchases. Also the deposit was half the size at the dealer we paid at.
Anyway she won't have the car until September, and the bad news is her current car needs an MOT the month before it gets scrapped!!! Is there any way round this?

I have to disagree with jeanieblue's advice about these small cars perhaps not being safe enough just because of size. In this specific example the lady is moving from a 19YO car, anything new at a car dealership will protect the occupants better in a collision than that.
Much more important than the size of the car is the Euro NCAP rating. I don't know what the Aygo's or i10's scores are, but they'll be 4/5 or 5/5. Compare this to the previous Land Rover Freelander which got 2/5. Which one is safer?
Glad OP got sorted in the end.
