My Seat Leon 1.6s 16v is approaching it's 60k service in the next few months. I contacted a local Seat dealership for a quote and the reply I got was.

The cost for the 60k service is £181.19

This is parts labour and vat included.

In this service we replace your oil and pollen filter, sump plug and screenwash. Engine oil and a full check of the vehicle is carried out, check tyres pressures etc etc.

I'm wondering if this is a good price, this is all a bit new to me.

Thanks

It's about right for a main dealer - I used to own this car once and used to do the service myself. All parts then cost about £60.

You could phone around a few garages and see what quotes they will give you for the same job. Main dealers will always be more expensive though.

Is your car still under warranty?

No, bought without warranty, had an AA check, been trouble free since I've had it.

Price seems pretty good for a main dealer.

How old is your car? If its pretty old and you intend to keep it for a quite a while yet, you might consider ditching your dealer and start using an independant (who are often cheaper).

2001, does have a full Seat service history, apart from the last 2 services which were done by an independent. I'll think I see what the independant quotes.

If it's already had independant services, then carry on using them. Main Dealers are no 'better' than an independant, they just charge a higher labour rate per hour!

Personnally, I self-service my cars once they are out of warranty. Yes I do have to drop the sales price of the car slightly when I come to sell it, but the savings from DIY'ing the service far out-weigh the reduction in sales price.
