As much as it is nice to follow everyones weight loss journey I thought it would be good to have a thread that just gave tips.
All appreciated. Perhaps food you found really filling. Things to take your mind off the eating. Anything that helps.
My offering is eat a slice of toast with honey for breakfast - more filling than porridge (a myth in my book porridge is filling)

I agree, I'm always really hungry by mid-morning when I have porridge for breakfast.
Another tip is to have water-based meals as the water fills you up while eating - stews, soups, etc packed with loads of veg.

if hungry - have a large glass of water and if still hungry after 20-30 mins only then have a snack (pref low fat and low cal!!!!) (if you can wait that long!!!)

I clean my teeth when I'm a bit hungry as it puts me off the taste of some foods afterwards.
Also have a hot bath/shower - don't know why but I always feel less hungry afterwards.

If you're hungry, paint your nails! Very difficult to open packets etc with wet nails!

I have a thing for Maltesers and bought a big bag of fun size Maltesers so that if I fancy a bag, I only have a small one rather than rading the vending machine at work and eating twice the calories! Only 100 calories in a fun size bag.
Never really understood calling them 'fun size' though. 'stingy size' is probably more appropriate!

Every couple of weeks spend an hour clothes shopping (window shopping only) and trying on new things ~ it puts your mind back in focus and gives me a real boost to get stuck in to lose what i need to to get into the next size down!

If you need a chocolate boost try the new muller vanilla with chocolate - its enough to knock the edge off the craving for me.

Oh u must try the endamane beans. U can get them shelled or not shelled...just boil them a couple of minutes then have alone or with salt and chilli pepper.

I agree with Kandipandi on that one. I'm currently between sizes which is driving me mad. Don't want to shoe-horn myself into a 14, yet 16 is too baggy - not a good look either way! And there's no escaping changing room mirrors - especially Next with those 'helpful' rear view ones!!!

Put on lipstick...that holds the urge to eat at bay. Start knitting, "Just one more row then i will get something to eat"

These are from the Paul McKenna 'I Can Make You Thin' plan (see thread (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1391459&highlight=paul+mckenna)):
Eat when you are hungry (it IS ok to do that! :D) and STOP when you think you are full. Also SLOW DOWN your eating and eat conciously, really appreciate each mouthful.

Don't watch cookery programmes or even adverts - they always make me feel hungry and want to eat.

chew sugar free gum to keep you occupied and can kick a sweer craving for a while
fizzy drinks can fill you up for a bit (diet)
eat whole fruit rather than smoothies- loads more goes into a smoothie and the fructose is more freely avaliable as your body doesnt have to work at breaking it down and its also bad for your teeth!

i concider myself a proffessional dieter, my life pretty much revolves around trying to lose weight or trying to gain weight.
The biggest mistake i see from amature dieters men and women who want to just shed a few pounds is no eating enough. Starving yourself won't help you lose weight if will make you grumpy stressed and fed up and there really is much better ways to lose weight, why make life hard on yourself when reall you don't need too??
the girls at the place i work hate me ... in a good way of course. since january they have watched me stuff my face and gaining over a stone in weight on purpose only for me to announce 4 weeks ago it was time to lose it again. 4 weeks later besides multiple comments from them like "geeze are you eating again.. you never going to lose weight this way" im offically below my pre-christmas wieght and aiming to lose another stone and they are honestly shocked, however i have a number of converts who've asked me to help them lose weight.
I am never hungry dieting, dieting isn't a chore for me it's simply a change of menu, i don't dread or fear it because im a "full and content" on diet as i am when im trying to gain weight.
I think the key to losing weight is reving up your metabsalism, feeding your body GOOD food and enough of it, by making sure your body is well nurished and all engines are burning at full capacity weight loss is just a matter of science. In V's Out.
As my trainer said ... bodys are like cars you can't expect it to go from where you are to where you want to be without filling up on fuel.

Another one I have thought of:
A hard boiled egg much more statisfying than a fried egg plus less calories because of the oil for frying.

One tip I find really helps is the old ww one of " if you bite it - write it"
Writing down EVERYTHING that you have eaten in a day really does stop you reaching for the biscuit barrel or the cake tin. Its always too easy to con yourself you havent really eaten that much that day - till you have seen it all down in black and white so to speak. It also highlights where you need to make changes, you soon notice a lack of fruit and veg

I was just going to say the exact same thing. I keep a diet diary, after every meal i write down what i've eaten whether its good or bad. And what excercise i've done that day. I also write in any tips and things like that and glue in magazine clippings that i want to keep. Its done me the world of good, i've lost a stone in 4 weeks. :D

Make Soup
Big pot of vegetable - bag of fresh soup mix veg and a couple of handfulls of dried soup mix, couple of stock cubes and boil for a couple of hours. Have a bowl everytime you are "starved" and need something dead quick (reheat in micro) and take a bowl before main meal. Lasts for days in the fridge, costs but a couple of quid for a huge amount and all goes to the five a day and best of all - fat free

You can't really lose a few pounds in a few days - but you could try a water and fruit diet, this would probably shrink your stomach a little. But apart from getting food poisoning - you've left it too late! How about getting a bigger pair of pants, and enjoying yourself. :o

My tip: eat wholemeal pita breads, they are filling and cheap. I pop one in the toaster and then fill it with a boiled sliced egg which totals around 200 calories.
M&S sell them cheaply on the value buys (the red sticker/label thingy).

Thanks Lawsofnature, yes the 'new pants' option may have to be the answer! Just been to tesco and stocked up on strawbs, pineapple, pears and salad. Mmmm we shall see!! Looked in S/w book at all the ss foods and bought those. Worth a try.

No drink Water.

Water seems to be much better at shifting the pounds than fizzy drinks. There seems to be something in fizzy drinks that makes the weight stall.
For O/S slimmers or S/W green plan: frozen grapes give you something sweet to suck on while watching tv etc rather than grazing. I keep my choc in the freezer too, so if i REALLY fancy a bit I'll break off a couple of chunks and put the rest back. You do need good teeth for this though!;)
I also used to have a giant bowl of chopped up fruits (including a banana)with total 0% yoghurt. Really fills you up for ages & you can use up older fruit (very MSE).
