Who do you recomend for driving lessons?

Need to get my drivers license. I have been a licensed driver in another country for over 20 years. Any suggestions on what company to use for lessons?

It's impossible to recommend a specific one really. The most important thing is the instructor you get - and these can be really bad, or really good - all within the same company. So I'd say go for any of them, and if you don't like the instructor ask for a different one or change company.

I'm not sure but many more people would recommend a local independent instructor than one from a chain, so perhaps search locally first?

What was the other country? If it's another EU country you can convert your existing driving licence to a British one without taking a new test - just send it to the DVLA and they'll issue you with a GB-registered one.

Surprisingly (to me) my 17 year old daughter is getting on really well with BSM. But it's the instructor not the company IMHO that makes the difference. When I learned to ride a bike in 2002 my first instructor was terrible. Same company, different instructor and my experience was completely different. Funnily enough the first instructor isn't with the company any more as others have complained with similar issues and have asked to change instructor.

Find a small local independant, ask them which DSA Grade they are, 6 is the highest.

I'd use a small independent instructor. Make sure you get someone who is not a trainee. Try to get a well qualified one who has plenty of experience.

I block booked lessons with BSM, but wish I hadn't! I felt that my instructor was just taking the money and not teaching me enough! He would stop off at the test centre and go to the loo during lessons. He wasn't at all supportive - he never said "well done" or anything similar!

I changed to an independent company - a small team of three people. My instructor is brilliant, I've learned much more from her - and I'm close to taking a test! And the lessons are £5.50 an hour cheaper than BSM!

Anyone under the age of 17. Over the age of 50 and the ones who use front fog lights in the day time...
