I have a nissan almera. I lost my keys recently including my car key. I have tried two key cutting places to get my car key cut but have been advised, because i have a chip in the key i have to visit a Nissan dealer.

I went to nissan directly and they told me the following:

to cut the key: £45.00

to fit the chip in the key: £55.00

total: £100.00

this seems quite expencive, anyone have any suggestions on where else to go?

I am based in the south london area

Actually £100 is quite good. I was quoted £240 for my mother's Peugeot 206.

I've just paid £100 for a Ford key (remote central locking) and that was the cheapest I could find.

If its programmed & works its cheap, many other makes are above £200.

Good price - Its going to cost my bro £140 to get a new key cut for his Suzuki Ignis Sport.

How cheap do you want it to be for someone to be able to steal your car?!

thanks to most of you for your comments, sounds like a good price. My local key cutter said he would cut my car key for 30 quid, but then realise it had one of those micro chpped thingys. First time i have ever looked into a key cutting for a car. I still think someone is making huge profits for this service, Nissan it is then, but may just do a search online

My key has a chip in it and Timpsons did a copy for £25.

I phoned Nissan to rub it in their face (I'm not normally like that but I was so annoyed at the quote of £300) and the service manager nearly had a heart attack when I told him how much it cost compared to their ridiculous place. He claimed the immobiliser needed to be reprogrammed :rotfl:

I suggest you try a key cutting place that has the facility to code the immobiliser key chip.

Not much to tell... they cut keys. :D

Just check out your local key cutting places, someone is bound to have the relevant programmer unit. I had the choice of two but went with Timpsons because they let you make a free phone call while they're cutting the key. I used it to call Nissan and let them know about the bargain I'd found

Try Ebay.

I have bought a few Ford keys for our car cost around £20 each ready cut and programed them myself by reading the users manual that came with the car.

dam, that sounds technical, but as you have done that, does it really cost nissan 100 quid to do?

ford wont reprogramme a nissan, ford will only do a ford. ford keys are different from nissan keys,in more ways than one.
