Recommend: Diesel Automatic Estate/MPV circular of £6k give or take a £1k etc.

but not something with huge miles. max of 60k.
Don't want something which looks old, or a complete tank.

ANy thoughts?

how about a peugeot 307 2.0 tdi diesel stationwagon, 7 seats and a really big sunroof that is 3/4 length of the roof.

Still a bit of a big target to hit but I quite fancy something like an E39 BMW 525i Touring for under £7K and up to 60K-70K miles, here is a £5500 54K miles example:

Skoda no longer the joke and I cannot bring myself to recommend anything else from the VW Audi Groupd with that DSG gearbox.
E39 5 series arguably the greatest mass produced saloon car ever made and enthusiasts consider it BMW's finest hour, some going back to one after owning the newer model.

Brother had a Pug 307 SW diesel and it wasn't bad, only made 38-40mpg on motorway runs though.

The auto option makes it tough. Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Vectra estates get you there, Japanese makes thin on the ground for auto and diesel.

DSG does not significantly sap power or affect fuel consumption, in fact because it changes gear quicker than you or I can 0-60 times end up quicker.
It is basically like a manual transmission with clutch and gear change controlled automatically, not a viscous coupling torque convertor "slushbox". It's the automatic for people who hate automatics.

Just had a quick look at figures for the 102bhp 1.6 FSI Golf.
The 7 speed DSG option gives identical acceleration and top speed and is actualy better on mpg, manual gears 39.8mpg, DSG 42.2 mpg.
For some reason on the diesels mpg is worse with the DSG.
Figures for the Touran tricky as they have the 1.4 TSi 140bhp being slightly worse on fuel with DSG than without. 1.6 FSi engine and the DSG is not available together on the Touran.

they have the other 1.6, which is about 115bhp so alittle more bhp and torque.

£6K will get you a 06 Kia Carens diesel auto with about 20K miles.

Good car, but no status symbol, only you know if that's important, should still have a couple of years warranty left too.

Don't be tempted down the automated manual route (whatever fancy initials or names they give them), there lies the potential of crippling repair bills.
Have a google for some truly eye watering repair prices.

Outside possibility...Vauxhall Signum or if you don't mind truly huge Vectra estate.

E39 was THEE best car! And still is to be honest! Specially the 2.8/3.0i ones...!

Can only get the new shape Accord as diesel auto, so that rukles it out on the grounds of price lol.

Nowt wrong with 2.0/2.4 petrols tho!
