acupuncture-experiences please

i want to find a good acupuncturist (is that what they are called lol?)..ive been ripped off in the past with complimentary medicine and i want to know im going to someone that really knows what they are doing..has anyone been to one in the west mids area, also id like to know peoples experiences of acupuncture. thanks

My daughter is 18 and has an allergy that makes her sneeze constantly, the doctors prescribe Piriton, but it does not really help, she has seen a consultant at a hospital but he was was not interested, so in desperation she is now having accupuncture. The first session has cost £45 for 2 hours, the remaining sessions of 1 and half hours is £36, but today she has not sneezed!!!! The accupuncturist at the same time asks how you are etc, she also asked where my daughter was on her cycle, and just mentioned she always has period pains, that day aswell, she stuck a few more needles in and low and behold no more period pains!! She came out yesterday so happy. She also says it does not hurt!!

Now so far she has had only 2 sessions, so a little early for end results, but if she has had her sneezing stopped or reduced then money well spent. Flippen doctors are useless.

All I can say is to find a good accupuncturist, either go on word of mouth, or ask at your local doctors surgery for recommendations.

some gps are trained in acupuncture (as a personal interest of theirs)and will do it free as they are not allowed to charge for nhs treatments.
I had acupuncture on a painful shoulder- the treatments were not fun but it did help the problem.

I'm currently having acupuncture on the NHS so it might be worth a trip to the GP and ask for a referral.

Anyone can be referred for free NHS acupuncture by their GP if he/she thinks it is appropriate for the presenting condition. However, just because a patient thinks acupuncture will help them doesn't mean they will get it, as is the case with many other treatments that are available on the NHS such as Herceptrin at the moment.
