To make chargeable calls (i.e. to normal landlines) you will need to add pre-paid credit to your sipgate account. You may do this from within your account by credit card through our simple but secure system.

So not free then?
Has anyone tried this?

The software is free and works well - and you do get a free phone number which is cool :) Then you can call some countries via landline, for free!
I used sipgate to get a decent local area code 6 digit phone number (I was lucky enough to get a # that starts with treble 8!)
Give that number to people and use sipgates free software to receive incoming calls (people calling pay normal rates).
You can use a different service for outgoing calls (I use voipbuster, UK + USA landline calls 1p a min).

Just be aware of the problems people have been having with so-called "expired credit". There's nothing in the T&C's about this with the Voipcheap service, but they mug you after 120 days for whatever's in your account. And I don't think they're on their own.

I've been using Voipstunt for a few weeks. They gave me thirty minutes completely free at first and then I had to put credit in my account (10 Euros) to keep using it. They money is still there in my account unused, but I don't think I can ever get it back again.
Considering I make at least ten - fifteen hours a week of international calls, I have already had my money's worth. Telediscount used to charge me 1p a minute to call Australia and 2p a minute to call Sweden. I would easily spend £30 a month on international phone calls alone.
Drawbacks: sometimes the sound is not very good but usually hanging up and dialling again will fix it.
They cut you off after one hour but you can just redial. It would nice if they warned you but they don't.
They require a deposit to use it, but if you're a frequent caller to any of the nominated free countries, you'll get your money back.

Thanks to dickibobboy1,zounds,grimelda and Wombat. For your feedback. Im still not sure if it is a good thing or not.
Sorry Kangol Rat if you have only read my negative post. Yes I do pick holes in things. Surely that is better than just Believing everything that you read. I am glad that some members actually read the terms and conditions of the offers and save us being ripped off or wasting our time. This is a forum and according to the dictionary that means a meeting to discuss matters of general interest.

My opinion is that these are great, moneysaving services. My only gripe with Voipcheap (the one I use normally) is that they felt able to help themselves to all the money in my account without actually stating in their T&C's that they would do this.
The thing about Voipcheap is that if you don't deposit any money into your account, any calls are limited in length, although you can just redial the number. From memory I think it's a couple of minutes or so before you get cut off.
The minimum deposit is £1, which will then allow you to stay connected for an unlimited time. In future I'll just be depositing the £1 until I want to call non-free (but cheap) numbers abroad. I'll then only deposit what I think I will need for the call. Used this way, it will save me £££ on my phone bill and I won't lose a lot when they mug my account. Still a good-sized saving.
As long as people are aware of how the systems work, and use them sensibly, they are superb.

The minimum credit you need to buy is £10 and not £1.

You're right! This has changed since the last time I bought credit. Time to switch, I think. Thanks, Caesarz.

Hi,
I feel much obliged to post this after reading and getting so much stuff from Freebies...well its not a freebee link am posting but its worth if some one you like is abroad to call and mostly it applies to land line calls. Well all u need to do is register and buy a credit of 10 and you can call to some destinations for free as i do to my sis in USA and the calls are clear but one thing is you need to download the software and need headset, microphone and internet connection you can even make local calls free with in UK and hope it helps but if you spend 10 you can call anywhere the destinations are listed on website where you can make free calls, other thing is if you go over fair usage policy you get charged but again after some charge rarely i got charged 30 cents (euro) for US Call and again its free...hope this helps and the website is
http://www.voipstunt.com/en/index.html
download the software and register with 10 and get free calls to all destinations listed on their website and a maximum call lasts one hour once hour is reach it gets disconnected don't worry u can redail and its good to talk for another hour and hour and so on.....hope this helps and good luck and wishes from me...
