Hi all,
I thought I would share this with you. I bought a LadyCare from Avon which promises to help relieve period pain through wearing this big magnet over your pelvic area. Well, despite being somewhat sceptical it is a bloody miracle. Is it all in the head? Who cares?? I have had lots of 'womens' problems for years and these result in me having a lot of period type cramps for the entire month on and off. I initially bought this to releive my period pains, after using it for about 3 months I found the cramps were pretty minimal whereas before I would be doubled up in agony for a couple of days.
In the last month I have found that my pains were getting worse during the 3 weeks off my periods because I get a lot of ovarian cysts and I have started using the Lady Care inbetween - the pains are now completely gone and I have been using it for 3 days. I am just going to wear it all the time until I feel I do not need it so much. You have to wonder if it is all in your head but the way I see it, if it was then thinking about it would bring the pains back surely and this does not happen for me.
It works in the way of magnets and it costs £10 at the moment instead of £15 but as I was buying a lot of painkillers it has saved me money already. I cannot find any details about it on the Avon website at all, sorry, so you might want to request a brochure from them and you'll find it on page 139 of brochure 5/2006. My friend who had terrible problems and even was iron deficiant through heavy periods said it has worked wonders on her and she feels better than ever.
Does it work? You decide!! I had to share it with you because I thought it has been a wonder for me and there must be lots of women who do not know about it. I hope this link helps at least one woman out there suffering with this.

I've had to go back on the mini-pill because of mid-cycle pain. Had them for over 10 years now. I would love to give this a try, will have to give my local Avon lady a call to avoid paying postage though

Good luck with it Ellie,
Yes, I had the same and put up with it and just took painkiller. It does take a couple of months to start working but my period is due today/tomorrow and no pain at all now whereas before I would be in agony for about 5 days. I can't beleive the difference in the blood loss that has been reduced as well - that really surprised me. I would have quite a lot at nights and now, not very much at all. Nothing else in my lifestyle has changed, I take the combined pill because of all the problems with my cysts, it worked last time but not so much this and I still get a lot of pain - well used to. Maybe this has sorted these problems out as well, who knows. It has a money back guarentee so nothing to lose if it does not work. I hope it works well for you.

I have now ordered this from Boots - costs £14.99 (might as well make some points and a £5 No. 7 voucher out of it, eh?). The PIP code is 289-0598, any pharmacy can order it for you with this code, apparently.
Hope it works for me!

Has anyone any advice for my 15 year old who has bad cramps (will order ladycare) but also suffers from nausea and vomitting on the first day.
She has had a few things from the doctors but none seem to work and I am reluctant to put her on the pill, at such a young age, as I had breast cancer a couple of years ago. I myself never had a problem with my periods apart from a bit of cramp occasionally.

i was put on the pill at 14 (various reasons - one being 9 day long periods - horrible!) - i didn't have any other risk factors - i don't smoke or drink much, no family history of cancer. it's a risk/benefit analysis that your GP will know more about, but having been on the pill for over a decade, i was getting nervous about side-effects - i'm now on a "3rd generation" pill that is much much lower risk than anything in the past. i completely understand your reluctance (my mum keeps telling me to come off or i'll get blood clots) - but you may find that some of the most recently developed pills aren't such a danger.

There's a £5 off voucher for Avon posted elsewhere, just ordered my LadyCare.
I've got my Mefenamic Acid (painkillers) and heat patches ready for this month's period. Maybe I won't have to use them anymore, here's hoping! :)

Has the doctor prescribed mefenamic acid under the name Ponstan or Ponstel? If she starts taking this regularly a couple of days before she starts and carries on throughout, it should get rid of the worst pain. It's important though to prevent the cramps starting because they're very hard to stop once they've got going.

Thanks, but yes she has tried that, anti-sickness tablets and Migraleave all prescribed by the doctor with not much success, unfortunately she tends to throw up just after taking them. At the moment her periods are a bit erratic even though she has had them for nearly 3 years, the pain although bad, is not her main concern, the sickness is very disruptive with her school work & she is going to stay with a family in Germany in June so we would like to sort it out before then!
As regards the pill and cancer, no-one else in my family has had cancer and I have a group of fellow younger, breast cancer sufferers unfortunatley the only thing any of us have in common is being on the pill for a long time, so you can see my reluctance!

It sounds like her hormones are out of whack. That's one to discuss with the doc but to be honest if she's young they'll be reluctant to interfere with that. What about the anti-travel sickness wrist pressure thingies?

Your daughter sounds exactly like me, I was really irregular and when they did come they were awful, I had cramps that went from my chest down to my knees and I was sick. I even left an art exam once cos my teacher thought I was about to fall off my stool. I persevered with mefenamic acid, I began to recognise a dull ache that signalled my period was about to start, and by taking the tablets from them, it meant that the cramps didn't get so bad as to make me sick. I also took soluble paracetamol as soon as I woke up to take the edge of the cramps so I could take the mefenamic acid without being sick (as the tablets are supposed to be taken with food). I ended up going on the pill as it was affecting my A levels, was on the combined but periods still painful so I went on the mini pill and my periods stopped straightaway and apart from a bit of spotting I haven't had a period since July, which has been amazing! Have you discussed your concerns about the pill with the doctor, as far as I know a conclusive link between the pill and breast cancer hasn't been found, it may be that women who are on the pill have more contact with their doctors, and may check their breasts more regularly, but I know that with your experiences you might feel the risk is still too great. When you go to Germany, there is a tablet your doctor can prescribe that will stop any period that may happen, this may be worth looking into if you're worried about it spoiling the holiday.

I suffered painful irregular period with prolonged heavy bleeding for 15 years. I went on the pill at 17 to try to alleviate symptoms, especially the heavy bleeding that was making me anaemic. I tried 4 different types of pill over a few years. Yes my periods were regular and lighter but the sickness and cramping was far worse. The cramps were exactly like labour pains!!
A newpaper article put me onto the herbal supplement Agnus Castus (Quest make). I have been taking it over 10 years. Now I just take 1 a day, but initially I followed the dosing guidelines on the package. My periods are still not a 28 day regular cycle but they are more regular than before. Bleeding is lighter but best of all they are pain free most months. The odd month I will suffer pain but it's mild and a painkiller soon sorts it out.

Hi all
Some Period pains are caused by using tampons Some sort fo muscle tension thing specially if hte pains are in the back (sciatic area) where the two dimples are, just above your bum, in your back when you lie down - I dunno if there's scientific evidence to back this up, but my Aunti Kat suggested that I don't use tampons for the first day at least and I found that I have 'no pain' periods now. :)

Hi all! I saw one these magnets (it was about a year ago - I forget the brand name) in my local chemist. As it was £15 and a lot of money to waste if it didn't work, I asked the pharmacist if it would be effective. She was very sceptical. She said it was a magnet and therefore how could it possibly work to aid pain relief? So I told a friend who needs help with pain. She strapped one of her kiddies large toy magnets onto her tummy to test the theory (for free) and... it made no difference! And nor do the heat pads from Boots! I'm really delighted to see that it works for some women - if men had period pain there'd be a cure by now! But I'm really interested to know HOW does it work? Anyone any ideas? :)

I have no idea HOW it works, I'm just glad it does! It also works for my daughter which is why I wanted another one.
It does have to be a certain strength of magnet which is why a toy one probably wouldnt work. It is so strong that I have to be careful at work - when I get too close to the metal drawers the magnet sticks to them :rotfl:
btw, you have to put Lady Care into the Avon site - NOT Ladycare!

I got mine from Lloyds pharmacy today. In the blurb it says that it works by inhibiting the nerve transmission of pain signals, and reducing local acidity (lactic acid) which improves circulation.
Also says it works using the negative pole and most other magnets are bipolar or positive pole.
Gawd I hope it works!

I could never forget this day, it was the day before New Years Eve the other years and I got period pains like I had never had before. I sent my partner to a late night chemist which was 12 miles there 12 miles back as I was in so much pain and I couldn't take certain tablets with the medication I was on. I never phone when I know he is driving but I had to phone to find out how long he was going to be as I was in so much pain, I was throwing up constantly and I couldn't lie down as it would make it worse. When he got home I was naked  scary i know:rotfl: on the toilet slumped down as I was going practically unconscious with the pain, I was having hot and cold sweats whilst sat on the toilet. I was unable to move off the toilet and I was scared to the point I was going to phone an ambulance as I was out of it that much slumped on the toilet constantly throwing up. My partner managed to get some Pepto-Bismol down me and I sort of came around enough as it stopped me throwing up enough to take the pain killers. The pain killers helped me like you would never believe. When I went to the doctors regarding medication I asked for something to help me with the pain, she looked about 18 and told me it must have been a bug. I left the doctors empty handed and as angry  as I knew it wasn't a bug like I told her. I later went on to get an implant contraceptive put in which has reduced the pain like you would not believe and stops any unwanted kids at the same time for us. It is ideal for a worried parent not wanting to become a grandparent and a painful teenager.

I have bought one of these devices and this is the first month of wearing it.
I woke today feeling like I had a hangover and seeing as though I don't drink wondered what was making me feel like this. Then I rememberd the instructions of my Ladycare which says that some women feel an 'unusual detox feeling' the first month of wearing it. Did anyone else get this?

If you have a mirena fitted you shouldnt be getting heavy blood loss. How long have you had it for? I would see your GP if I were you.
The bumf that came with the Ladycare states that it should not be worn if:
You or your partner has a heart pacemaker of defibrillator
You or your partner has an insulin syringe driver

I bought mine when Avon first did this offer - think it was early last year. When I first used it, I did feel a bit 'odd', sort of queasy and headachey. This did wear off and I was fine the second month. It definately helped ease the pain and I found I only needed to 'top up' with maybe the odd paracetemol, rather than dosing up with everything going!
I actually stopped using it as I wasn't sure whether it was causing me to have prolonged periods. On reflection, I don't think it could have been, as I'm now back to both prolonged and excruciating periods! I'd forgotten I had it until I noticed this thread, so think I'll give it another try next month.
