I got ths offer on the bottom of an email today about discount wine at tesco.

You have to set up a direct debit to get the points, but you can cancel before the forthnight is up and return any hired dvds to get your points and dvd rental for free.

It's the Deal of the Day today - just signed up, although to get them to send you any DVD's you have to add 10 to your list!!!! I'm not the biggest movie watcher and spent ages looking for 10 I fancied, although I can't see I'll get past the first two or three in a fortnight!!

worth it for 250 points though, and I've put a reminder on my calender to cancel in time.

Do you think I can do this when I have been a member before?

I would be careful when dealing with Tesco. I never received any extra points, in fact no points what so ever not even for the 3 months rental in advance (£18.91) I will keep you informed of my progress but it appears that Tesco don't refund DVD rental.

Got caught with this one.

They ask you to make a list of favourite DVD's which are then sent to you as part of the rental agreement. As soon as you send one back, the next one on your list is dispatched.

You can't cancel the agreement until all DVD's are returned - as fast as you return one, another one is on its way! To avoid making the first monthly payment you really need to cancel immediately, and get the first DVD back to them by return....well before the end of the trial period.

I got stung for £7.99 for one DVD rental (scratched disc which skipped) because they apparently did not get it back before the direct debit date.

Oh by the way....250 bonus points still not showing on my statement!

I tried this recently but forgot to complete the form - Tesco sent me an email offering me an even better deal if I completed the trial form. Two weeks later they mailed me to say I couldn't have the offer. When I asked why it was because I had previously taken out the offer from screenselect dvd rental that was on the quorn boxes some months ago. It appears that tesco and screenselect are one and the same company (at least the dvd rental is anyway). Bummer.

UPDATE - I just phones Tesco CS about these points and they said they were credited yesterday, so I'll get them in may.
Maybe the points take 30 days to be credited?

I just wanted to post my feelings regarding DVD rentals.

I have used Blockbuster, Lovefilm and now Tesco.

I'm sorry to say that Tesco provide an appalling service compared to the other two. I watch a lot of films and signed up to the 3 month gift certificate thing that they were doing.(The one with the extra points, then you can use the gift certificate yourself)

It's quite normal to send a film back and not recieve a return for two or three days. I may have been spoiled in the past but I can't wait for my 3 month membership to lapse, I certainly wont be signing up in future for it.

Blockbuster have an ok service but I had a problem with them when two DVDs went missing and I never recieved them, Royal Mail got involved and I was left waiting 33 days without service. Bad customer service, so I cancelled that.

I must say that I think Lovefilm are a great company, send a DVD back and they will post another one the day the following day, usually.

Lovefilm also have a great selection, good reviews of movies and they don't send too much spam. You can also freeze your account for up to 60 days for free.

Lovefilm were also doing a 2 month free trial which was the reason I started using them.

All in all, I recommend you steer clear of Tesco despite the offer of points and free trial.. and try Lovefilm.

Hope this helps someone.
