sorry you've not had a reply - there are plenty of blokes at my work who cycle more than 10 miles each way to work - on ordinary bikes.

Why not stick the bike in the boot, park 5 miles away and cycle to and from there until you are used to the distance, then up the miles week by week until you no longer need to take the car - assuming you already have a bike, that is. Also, pump your tyres up so they're hard - the bike goes a lot faster.;)

Yes thank you for that, seeing as electric bikes seem a little bit expensive and dont generate a whole lot of interest maybe go down your suggested route !! Now which bike to buy there are loads out there, thanks again.

Tesco Direct have 2 options.

The older model http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-4475.aspx at £342.55
or the newer model http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-0337.aspx at £450.00

Hope this helps:D

Electric bikes are excellent, but the tesco bikes are really heavy and the batteries (lead acid) only last for a year. Given the batteries cost £100s you should take the cost of replacement into account. Think about a lithium polymer battery which last 10 times longer, but only twice the price (and the cost is coming down). For an example try googling Juicy Bike. Look for voltage (higher the better: 36V) motor power (250W +) and weight (anything over 30 Kgs is a real pain)

or just do as aurilo suggested and go for a normal bike. 10 miles each way is not that hard pedalling. I would be more worried about road safety but then using an electric bike is probably just as dangerous.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=1009335#post1009335)) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Costs £100 to do your 'compulsory basic training' (google for info) and once passed allows you to ride the aforementioned vehicles on L plates. My 2007 yamaha ybr 125 does 88mpg. that is calculated on my commuting usage :)

i have a pedal assisted electric bike.. would never go back to a standard push bike now.. it has a lithium battery which is lighter than the lead acid ones. it was expensive but just the job to get around on:rotfl:

If you haven't ridden a bike even for 2 years, you'll not manage 10 miles each way. It'll take you a couple of months before you can do 20 a day.

My oh was looking into the tesco electric bike then spotted something you can put onto an ordinary bike that turned it into electric. Think they were quite expensive too . Seen some electric bikes on ebay but usually batteries are konked. Drivers don't see bike riders either oh has had a few near misses .
