hi
ive just bought a new car and it went for a full service and check over
he changed the front discs and pads and said the front tyres were wearing on the inside and were ok for a few months

it has just passed an mot so i was a bit!!!!
so when i get the tyres( i usually get part worn as money is tight) do i get the tracking done or balancing?? i get a bit of a judder around 70

or do i get it tracked now and they will last longer?
thanks for any help im clueless

All tyres should be balanced before they are fitted to the car.

If you get a judder at 70 you may have lost a weight from one of the wheels causing this or its the tracking, combination of both.

Personally I would have the tyres rotated, rebalanced and the tracking checked. For safety and peace of mind.

an MOT wont pick up things like uneven tyre wear unless the tread is illegal.
this is what a service should pick up.
get the wheels balanced, this will be causing the judder. the unever wear will be due to the tracking being out, if the tyres are almost done then just wait till they need replaced and then get the tracking done, some places may offer a discount on tyres and tracking, always ask for a discount.

thankyou
the guy who serviced it said ive a good few months to go with the tyres depending on mileage

i think i can afford to do tyres in a month
can you please tell me if it is totally safe for us to head up the motorway visiting this week end or should i get these tyres tracked? thankyou again

It's not unsafe, but you are wearing your tyres out unnecessarily if you continue driving with the tracking out. Also it's using fractionally more fuel, as the rolling resistance will be increased.

thankyou
i will wait a month or so then and then change them and get it sorted

What car is it? Some can be a pain and it may need a geometry check - especially if it is an IS200.

My car recently had a vibration at higher speeds. It was the drop link coming off the anti-roll bar, this may be worth checking. I had to have a new drop link fitted and it is ok now.

Wouldn't have thought geometry check then.

May be worth getting local garage to check out underneath etc. see if anything is amiss. Are they cutting out quite badly then?
