I've seen a vauxhall corsa 1.0 12v active 03reg advertised for £3495 but looking at parkers this seems very over priced. Parkers trade price / part ex recommends £1640. Is it realistic to think I could offer £2000? I don't want to go and make a fool of myself!

I've got the same model car but on a 52 plate, had it valued last week by a local dealer and he said mine is worth in the region of £2225 - £2500.
Not sure on the mileage and paintwork etc of what you are looking at but mine is low mileage on faultless inside and out so it does seem rather high - unless its a special edition or something

You want a warranty of some description with it? Then you will need to pay a bit more. I doubt he will bite even at £2,500 go in and be cheeky at just over £2k and see what he says (there will be much huffing and puffing).
Once you have tried it a few times on different cars you will be able to get a clearer picture.
See my other post but we have been advised (and with my own research) that my MIL CRV 04 plate will be sold for less than £5k just to get shot of it.

Most dealers have about £1500 across a car but that is reduced by having to offer a warranty (often worth absolutely nothing) & have to service & MOT it. Plus they have to mostly offer more for a part-ex than what they will get for their part ex.
Therefore IF there is no part-ex you there should be enough money across the car for a £500-£800 discount BUT if the dealer feels he can make the full £1500 & sell the car at the asking price why would he sell it for less??
