Ive been going to a hairdresser for a while, but i find he's not really in touch with young mens hair, he seems to style my hair into a bit of a bouffant, regardless of what i ask for.
So ive booked an appointment today at a Toni and Guy. Basically i dont want the length affected other than around half an inch off all round, and the back taken up slightly. But overall i just want more a choppy cut, a bit more current looking than when the other guy does it. Whats everyones opinion on the place, will i be pleased with the results?
Also do they have style books there so i can show them what i want?

that's funny - sorry. I just have visions of you coming out with big fluffy hair.
Anyway, yes I used to go to T&G but stopped as it was getting too expensive, but I'm female and have long hair. You should be fine with regards to them "being up to date" but you could also take a picture of something you've seen and like - always helps, but I'm sure they'll be able to do something from your description

Thats actually a perfect description of how i looked! I went in with longish hair, fringe like, and he could see how i have it, im a 23 year old man. He proceeded to comb it all over to one side, BLOW DRY IT! and stick a bit of wax to hold it in place, so i walked out with the worlds biggest, fluffiest combover ever!

Also, i would take a photo in, but my hair is fairly similar in style to Zac Effrons, from High school musical, and at the age of 24 coming up to 25, id feel slightly embarrassed about taking in a photo of Zac Effron. Thats why i was hoping they'd have style books or something.

Both my sons - 19 and 16 go to Toni & Guy and both have different hairstyles. 19 year old has a longer bit from front to back, short round sides - happy with this everytime. 16 year old has variety of long and choppy with coloured bits in school holidays, also happy with this. I've been going to Toni&Guy for longer than I care to think about and on the whole they are excellent - take a picture if you've seen something specific but be prepared for adaptation for your type of hair. Good luck

nah! Take the photo in. They would rather have something visual to go by that a verbal description.

I used to go to a Toni and Guy place before I moved house - they always had style books there, and usually lots of hair/fashion related magazines, so you should be able to find something.
If I want something very specific doing to my hair, I tend to sit in front of the mirror before they wash my hair, and show the hairdresser exactly which bits I want cutting and to what level - you kind of make sure they get what you mean that way.

Thats the problem i had with my last hairdresser, because he washed it, he couldnt really see how i had it, he just went and did his own thing. I thought with Toni and Guy they do a sort of 'Consultation' period where you can show them what you want done?

Ask them for the book - i have noticed they dont really tend to have them out in my local T&G. But ask and they'll happily fetch it.
Also you can go to whsmiths and get a guys haircut style magazine - or look in the girly ones as they often have mens sections (i like smiths as you can look through the mag before buying, lol).
One word of warning is that even though Toni & Guy is a well known hairdressers doesn't mean all of the stylest are good - if you want something specific never go to a junior (trust me) and once you find a good stylist stick to them, if they are not in one day and they try to book you with someone else just tell them you'll wait for your stylist to be back. Trust me, its all from experience. I am a girl not a guy, but a T&G regular so see what goes on in there...i go there once a month as i have a high maintainance cut but have found a fab stylist and know who to avoid. Good luck! x

The book i mean is the actual T&G style book they keep - its fab and really up to date.
Also the mags in smiths are about half the size of normal mags (can fit in a large pocket) and use mainly hair models so you wont feel like such a plum bringing in a pic of a teen star, lol!
It's trial and error with hairdressers. Just because it's expensive doesn't always mean it will suit you.
Give them a go anyway, sit and have a chat with your stylist before hair wash and explain what you would like. You really won't know until you get there whether they will be on your wavelength or not. Many people take a photo in and end up disappointed cos the hairdresser isn't experienced enough to bother telling them that the style won't suit them or won't work on their hair. A good one will tell you that it won't work.
My advice, if you try there and aren't happy is ask around your mates whose hair you like where they go and give them a try.
When you find the one you like, stick to them like glue and follow them from salon to salon - many small salons have great stylists and colourists who set up on their own after getting some great training with the big names.

I've tried many salons over the years, i have the worst thick and frizzy hair in the world  i had really long hair and wanted a bob i thought i'd try toni and guy so i did and i can honestly say they are the best they did me a great bob style that was very fashionable even tho the stylist said he had never seen hair like mine he found it very difficult to style but in the end it turned out great after he went through it with ghd's.
I would defo recommend them to anyone as they seem to really know what they are doing and the quality of the cut is worth every penny like someone said earlier they are expensive but i think they are worth the extra money.

I'm curious to know, how much a cut and blow dry is at T&G?
And is it worth it? LOL
I normally pay £35 at my normal hairdressers and gather it would be a lot more expensive than this.

I pay £36 everytime i go to keep my style up, that includes cut and blow dry and straightening with ghd's

OMG! IS that all? I was expecting about £60 :o
I had my hair cut Monday into a bob from being fairly long (middle of my back/bra strap length) and it seems a bit 'choppy' at the back (qoute my mother in law), i have phoned the salon today to speak to the lady that cut it but it's her day off, the manageress said to pop in tomorrow for her to look at it.
I've never had any problems with her doing my hair before and she's been doing it for about 18 months.
MMMMMMM......... Feel tempted to try T&G next time

I had really long hair to middle of my back and got it cut short to my ears toni and guy charged me £80 but that included half head of blond highlights so not bad i suppose.
