i can only tell you my own experience on this. It was basically my last choice as i have had bad side effects from every other type of contraception i had tried and after i had my first baby i decided to try this as a last resort.
I had it in about three months and it was three months of being thoroughly miserable, i bled constantly and was depressed and suffered weight gain. I had to beg my doctor to take it out as they were keen to leave it in longer telling me it would settle but i had to get rid of it and when i did it was like a cloud had been lifted from over my head! i have read similar accounts from other users but i have also read reports of ow fantastic it can be so i think it is just a case of try it and see how it is for you. But if you really feel it disagrees with you then do be forceful with the doctor about having it out because they may try and push you into keeping it.
I am now using no contraception at all because sadly there is nothing out there that agrees with me and i feel so much better for it.
I hope that you make the decision that feels right for you as i said it may work for you or it may not you just need to weigh up the risks involved and think about ways in which it may affect you.
I hope that this helps a little

i had this in for about 10 months after my daughter was born.I kept forgetting to take my pill and was terrified of having another baby!!!The numbing injection was really stingy but the rest of the procedure was quick and painless.

I had only one side effect which was a pretty constant spotting.apart from that it was great for me. in the end i got a bit fed up with the spotting and things were much more settled with my lo so i went back on the pill. But it was worth the spotting for 10 months of not having to remember a pill!

Hope you get on alright with whatever you decide.

hi-ive just had mine taken out! i only had it in for almost 4 months but it made my life hell, non stop bleeding and yukky brown stuff in between when lucky, bad mood swings (felt due on all the time), had terrible period pain (ended up at gp's begging for tablets to help).....

i hated it, but everyone reacts differently.

just remember they usually make you wait 6 months before even concidering taking it out, and then youve got a consultation and then the appointment to take it out...can take time.

i begged as i felt that bad with it in, it was ruining my relationship also.

good luck,

keely.

I'm coming to the end of my first three years of having the implant in and have got an appointment for next week for the second one. It has been great for me as due to family history, I can't have the pill, the mini pill was too restrictive etc etc. The first year, I didn't have ANY bleeding at all however since then it's been random bleeding in the same sort of intervals as a period. I like it, but everyone is different (as you can see from all these posts!).

i have an implanon and its coming out in october this year, it will have been in for 3 years then. and i cannot praise it enough! ive had 2 short periods for the whole 2 half years no mood swings, spotting. however i did get quite spotty (skin/face wise!) when it first went in but im still quite spotty at 23 anyway! its been great for me but as you can see theres a lot of women who arent happy with it!

good luck!

I've had implanon since I was 18 and am on my 2nd one now. With my first I had a very light period about once every 3 months. Since I've had it swopped in Jan I have not had one yet. I got a bit ratty though, I guess with the sudden higher hormone level but seem to be back to normal now! :D I would recommend it! But everyone is different and it could be hell for you. Sorry

Hey

I'm on my second one. First one was deeper down than this one now is, and I can feel it on the surface pretty much all the time.

The first time I didn't bruise/bleed on my arm a lot. The second time, my arm was a mess. I've got pics I'll show you if you like!

Physically wise - I've had absolutely NOTHING since the day I got it in, nothing at all, no periods, no spots, no mood swings etc. And I did have really heavy and painful periods before..

Hope this helps, you'll be fine!

I'm too on my second one I can't really fault it, had maybe 2 periods in the whole of having them. It doesn't really hurt although you do need a pressure bandage on it for a few days because of bruising.

I suppose it is less intimate than a coil

I hate mine and my doc won't take it out! Says I've not given it at a chance -

I've had it in since August.

I've had 4 DAYS of no periods, every other day has been spotting or a full on period.

I've got a patch of acne on my cheek.

My breasts have been leaking milk.

My moods are all over the place.

They gave me the mini pill to take with it - Cerazette was rubbish, gave me even more spots and made me soooooo hungry.

I'm now on fermulen which has done nothing so far, though I haven't bled today so fingers crossed.

It's the spots on my face that bother me most, I've always been prone to some plooks round my mouth but these are like pustules are so disgusting, I tried freederm gel and that's not really done much. Anyone got a hormone induced acne treatment? Lol.

Everyone reacts differently though OP, you may find you have no side effects at all. It dosen't hurt getting it put in either, though my arm looked awful for about a week afterwards, like a giant birthmark.

I have taken Microgonian (sp) with mine and not had any problems really as such apart from feeling quite sick at night. Perhaps ask to try that?

I'll look up the spelling for you later
