Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=1009335#post1009335)) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. How have you been bleaching your teeth?
Was it with stuff you got from the dentist?
Teeth don't necessarily need root treating before crowning, but you will (or should) have them x-rayed before they are crowned to make sure they don't need root filling.
If you're going to get them whitened, then BEFORE the crowns are done would be the time to do it, so that the crowns match. (Crowns won't change colour).
However - you need a stable and reliable way of whitening your teeth - as you don't want to whiten them, have new crowns made to the new colour, and then have the teeth darken again.
Get the whitening done through the dentist. Maybe not the cheapest way to get it done, but probably the safest way of insuring everything will match in the end.
hi,thanks for the advice.I am bleaching them through my dentist.i have been bleaching them for about 4 weeks, dont see much difference.

Your dentist will/should have taken a shade so that they can show you the difference. As your seeing it everyday it might be not be noticable to you as it is a gradual effect, but others will notice.
Of course this next statement depends on the bleaching system your using- one syringe over 3 weeks seems a bit stingy. Ask your dentist for instructions on how to use the gel effectively.

Consult your dentist for the best advice, after all its what your paying for. Sounds like you need a bit more of an explanaion on how to use it.

The crowns will already have been made in the original shade, so i assume your wearing temporary crowns?
If this is the case, you will still get charged for the crowns. normally for this reason i insist that the bleaching is always done first before any crowns to get the correct shade, as the cosmetic result it better IMO.
It is perfectly possible to bleach top and bottom at the same time- without resulting in any major problems- but then again, this is something you should be talking to you dentist about, not someone on an internet forum claiming to be a dentist.
Ring your dentist. Ask to speak to them directly and see what they say.

If you have 2 crowns done as NHS is this charged as one lot of band 3 treatment which is about £194 does anyone know.

Do you mean you are going to have your crown recemented? The one that fell off?
Still go and have that done and speak to him too.

OK then. Cancell your appointment until you are happy with the colour of your teeth. I still think you need to speak to him about how to bleach your teeth and how much stuff to use.
Rammy- not sure if that was a question or not? 2 NHS crowns cost the same as 1 NHS crown which in England is £196ish. ANy exams and xrays and another other treatment will be included in this £196. cost.

I have used homebleaching kits and 'whitening tothpaste'with no noticeable effect.
at the moment though i am using sensodyne ordinary toothpaste and coincidentally have found that my teeth look noticeably whiter.

I do hope you dont overdo it. I think all the actors on tv (noticeably Corrie!) have really awful looking brilliant white teeth now. I find my eyes drawn to their teeth rather than listening to their lines. So artificial looking - ghastly.

Tooth whitening might not work well if the trays are thin and/or not fitting well so the gel is leaking out / saliva getting in anddiluting the gel.
