Why are bus fares going up.

Yet fuel is going down? I just don't know what to do now. The buses are getting too expensive and i can't even drive. There is no-one in my family who drives and lessons cost a fortune.

Is there a cheaper way to learn how to drive? What is the average i should be paying for a lesson per hour? I live in Doncaster if it helps.

Regardless of anything else, I think it is pretty naieve to think that fuel is the only cost that a bus company has.

maybe the bigger bus companies like first have bought out the smaller local competition and now have a monopoly on your local area.

I got the bus not long ago. Hadn't used them in a while. Grabbed a handful of coins from my pocket convinced they'd be enough but when the bus arrived had to reach into my wallet for a tenner.

Aren't buses supposed to be subsidised by the Government somehow as they're an all-wonderful transport method?

As for cheaper ways to learn I don't really know. www.2pass.co.uk has a good forum. The main options I'm aware of are lessons with the big boys (AA, BSM etc) which will probably be about £25 an hour. A cheap independent possibly £20 an hour. Paying for loads of lessons in advance often attracts a discount but this is only useful if you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket and best done only when you're certain you'll get on with the instructor and are learning things etc.

I too was in the same boat with noone else in the family driving. It's probably a good thing really as you won't be falling out with family members over them having no time to teach you, or them shouting at you when you make a mistake :D I was a lucky sod as there was an amazing bargain in Halfords ages ago where you could buy BSM vouchers at the equivalent of under a tenner an hour and they're the only reason I started driving.

Yet fuel is going down? You're mistaken. Fuel is going up, not down. In the past month petrol at my local supermarket has gone up 7p/litre, diesel up by around 5p/litre.

Driving lessons will be anywhere between £10 - £20 ph. My sister has just paid £99 for 10hrs in Harrogate Aim2Drive - i'm not sure if they are in Donny.

Bill plant normally has some sort offer i think its £56 for 5 hrs atm. He'll be in donny - uses corsa with stickers all over!

In my area the fares went up when fuel was £1.30 a litre. They haven't reduced them back to the level when fuel was around £1 a litre, as it is now. A ticket has increased from 90p to £1.80. This is a huge increase!
