Help with buying Sat Nav please!

Looking to buy Sat Nav for OH's birthday next month. Any suggestions/tips greatly received.

TomTom ONE if you want a cute & up to date, portable (can move from car to car) unit. Before Xmas they were on special offer at around £230. I suspect there was a price spotting thread somewhere on MSE about this.

or a Garmin i3, not sure if you can still pick one up from Somerfield or Kwik Save for £99?

Have been using sat nav for about 3 years now. It all depends if you want a cheap n cheerful solution, or something worth having. If it is the latter then buy Tom Tom Go 500 or 700, if it is the former go for something from Aldi or Lidl, i.e Medion or Tevion.

It is worth considering what updates/downloads are available.

Just one Tip, get one with a decent size screen :-)

I was going to het I3 online but when i saw one realised that screen was far to small, i got a medion from Aldi and put the speed camera database on it, it may not be the greatest ever but it does what i need it to do and i find it easy to use with large touch screen display.

have a look at route 66. if you have a smart phone a thick this is the best and a lot cheaper.

The Tom Tom Go 500 and 700 are great (I have the 300 with same screen etc) but the Tomtom ONE has the same screen size, is pocketable (almost) and importantly, is able to work better in weak reception locations eg in built up cities, under trees & maybe behind heat-filtering windscreens, due to much improved electronic technology.

Tbh, the screen size shouldn't be a major factor. I've got a 6xx series Navman http://www.navman-pcn.com/index.php?product=12 and i find that screen big enough. I tend to take voice guidance rather than drive looking at the display (sure way to potentialy run into the rear of someone).I'd find a unit with a good quality speaker that can be easily heard at motorway speeds and is easy to operate and suits your needs.
