No Mot On My Car

The MOT on my car ran out around september. Just not had the funds to have it tested.
What are the rules now for taking a car for MOT test without an MOT?
Will the test centre throw a wobbly about it?
Will I be able to drive it home after test if nothing seriously wrong with car?

I been told my insurance will not be covered cos I will be invalidating it without MOT on car , is that true , even when taking it too test centre?

I'm not too sure about the insurance angle of driving a car to an MOT centre without a valid certificate - but I'd imagine that your insurance would indeed be invalid.

For the last two years I've forgotten to get my MOT carried out before the previous certificate expired - the garages didn't comment on it in either case - I suppose they aren't too fussed as it doesn't affect them.

Last year I got the MOT done 1 month late - the following day someone drove into my car and wrote it off. The insurance company requested by MOT certificate so I was flippin' glad I had one!

test center wont care that it hasnt got one at the moment, and I seem to think that your insurance is ok if youre driving to a booked MOT appointment, but I have no idea where i got that from...

You can drive it to the test centre, as long as it is booked in advance. You can then drive it back, but legally not if it is unsafe to be driven. It will say this on the bottom of the fail notice if the inspector thinks it is unsafe. That doesn't stop you breaking the law if you want to.

Insurance, kind of a catch 22 isn't it! perhaps you phone your insurer and ask the following in this order

1 Am I insured to drive the car if I have no MOT ?
2 Am I insured to drive to the test station to obtain an MOT?

Also, is the fact that the car will not be taxed at this point. How do you get over that problem too?

It still got tax left on it from previous MOT

Since the car is legally allowed to be driven to a pre-booked MOT, then your insurance is fine.

However, make absolutely sure that the booking is recorded in writing at the MOT station. If misfortune does befall you on the way to the MOT then this might be the only evidence you have that you were legal. Plod and the insurance will go looking for verification that it was pre-booked.

No tax is no problem as long as it is booked in for an MOT. I'd agree with zappahey's first sentence.

But if it is unsafe to drive, after you have been notified of this you will probably be uninsured.

I don't believe it is unsafe to drive , nothing seems to a big repair on it. Tyres seems good condition.
Will get back when I have enquired about MOT test,etc.

I was asking about the tax cos I have a car I want to give to someone. It has no tax or MOT. I was wondering how I could get it to them legally so that they could get it taxed & MOT'd ?
