if you go in lush and tell them your skin concerns and what kind of soaps and stuff youd be after and also ask if you can have some soap samples, they will cut little bits off the big blocks for you (i noticed they weighed them to be about £1 worth each) and wrap them and i went today and got about 7 which i gave to my mum with some EA bath salts and really made her night!

theyre putting em on ebay?! haha! thats well funny i got mine for my mum coz in my freebie scout around Leeds id already got my dad a springy and my sis a hard candy lip gloss for free so i wanted to get my mum summin to go with her EA bath salts! :)
i go round to their house and my mum feeds me and then i give them pressies ive gotten for free! :)
anyway, i just went in anad asked if i could sample some stuff before i bought it. i told teh SA about my ezema and asked what was suitable, but you could say whatever skin you have, dry, normal, combination, oily etc. and it was so nice coz she selected me all these little soaps and weighed them and wrapped them up and popped them in a bag and she said "youve got a proper little goodie bag there" and i had to agree with her!
basically i come up with ideas coz i cant afford everything i want so i work out (olegal) ways to get them! :)

The people selling samples on ebay are usually lush fans with huge stashes that wanna spread the love or cut down their stash a bit. I doubt they sell things gave to them by kind SAs.
The management and lush SAs have posted on the lush forum many a time putting people straight on this issue so a word of warning - do not all of you flock to lush and EXPECT samples. They are given out at the discretion of the assistants and managers to people that are buying other stuff and genuinely want to try something before they fork out for a whole bit. It depends on what is available they do not just give out £1 samples to everyone!!

As studentindebt says, don't always expect free samples when you ask for them. I've been shopping at Lush for a long time now and only yesterday did was I offered a sample of a product that I mentioned. They have a generous nature as a company but they do have to pay the bills the same as the rest of us!

the great thing about when they give you stuff is that it is a generous suprise.

I have occasionally asked for a sample of soap, cos sometimes the smell can be a bit too strong but you don't know until after you've used it properly.
I think it's great that they do that but if people abuse it then Lush will stop doing it.

01-02-2006, 1:31 PM
I've had a couple of samples from lush - there was a little basket of samples behind the counter which were leftovers from the big blocks of soap and she popped one in my bag, they were all in bags with labels so must of made them up whilst they were quiet.
I agree, never expect samples like this - they're always a bonus when you do get them then :) - but if never hurts to ask ;)

If they were going to cause companies to make a loss they wouldn't do it...it's good marketing.

Hey freebie_junkie.
Ive gotta say, your posts have always been a great help to me and I dont think you're taking the mickey but are genuinely trying to help people save money. By requesting free samples, this enables us to decide which product we prefer so that we dont fork out a fortune for something we dont like. By giving out the free samples, Lush is ensuring that the customer will shop there again and again, hopefully introducing a few more customers through word of mouth. Its a win win situation. :j

I think the Lush policy is fairly clear. If you go in, talk to the staff about your skin, explain what your problems are, and make it clear you'd like to buy their products, then they'll always let you have samples to try before you buy, if they have time to get them for you - not a chance on the Saturday before Christmas. But if you just walk in and ask for free stuff, you won't get it, and why should you?
How many of you would walk into a supermarket and ask for free stuff?

You're not getting it. Some supermarkets will be happy to give you samples to taste if you're going to buy things. But if you walk in and say "I'd like a sample of that and that and that and that and that and that please" you won't get anywhere. If you're genuinely interested in trying things before you buy, fair enough, but if you just want free stuff to avoid paying for it, it's not going to happen.

im starting to get it...youre a bit bitter perhaps coz you dont have our pizzazz at getting stuff for free? :j
Best thing to do, if you are a Lush fan, and you want to try a lot of new things is to wait for the special offer they do after xmas, it's usually spend £15 get a free gift and these can be the xmas gift boxes (even the big ones if you are there at the right time!) or any normal product with a "christmas" made by sticker except for normal gifts.
I've got extremely senstive skin, excema etc etc and Lush is great for mine, I do avoid products with glitter in if I can help it though, but I would recommend Honey b ballistics if you have sore skin, they work wonders on mine xx

Hi, I'm new here but saw this thread and had to comment as I know LUSH pretty well.
Firstly, all the ingredients are natural. IF you look at the label it tells you the essential oils which are in there. THEN it says Perfume, but it's not a perfume, it's another essential oil, but for obvious reasons (or maybe not for some) they don't put the oil's name because people will then take the ingreds and copy the product and make it themselves. EVERYTHING is natural aside from the safe preservatives. It would be a lie if they called it natural and it wasn't and they were actually putting unatural perfumes in there. Lush could get in huge trouble for saying they were something they weren't. If you don't believe me then read up on some stuff yourself. If you go to their site they will tell you all about it.
ALso, it's fine to ask for samples IF there is something you need to try. You have sensitive skin, then I recommend letting the SA know and say you would like to try any of the products specifically for sensitive skin. But going to the counter, having not bought anything or let any of the assistants help you with the products and then demanding a sample is a bit cheeky I think.
There are things in there for most people.
Thanks for listening, sorry I barged in, but I don't like people assuming something and saying things about a company which aren't exactly true.
p.s. the deo, if you use it on wet skin it may fizz as they have bicarb in them. Or if you used the cream one, that has loads of bicarb and don't rec. using after shaving. Other than that the deos are really good, especially the Aromaco and Aromarant which are quite gentle.

Hi,
no no no it's fine to ask if you have a condition or something you want to try. Sorry I wasn't directing that bit at you, it was for the rest who were just going to go in and ask for samples just to get them. but going in and asking if there is something SPECIFIC you want then totally go for it.
Also they dont do samples just to have them. They want people to ask to use certain things. Could you imagine the loads of samples and rummaging they would have to do if they had every sample in the store sitting behind the til. I just think people should think about it.
Didn't mean it the way it came out.

Actually i DID look at the ingredients and lush say themselves that only some are natural. you said ALL the ingredients are natural ,then.. everything is ..aside from the preservatives. i have been buying natural creams etc for years and know that essential oil is natural and perfume is artificial. i did'nt assume either. if you use essential oils you don't add perfume.

THe perfume is not a perfume, LIKE I SAID. I worked there for two years. I think I know what goes into them and what doesn't. I've seen the stuff made I know the behind the scenes.
Thanks but you ARE wrong on this one. The smells you smell are natural essential oils, fruits, veg, plants everything.
They do not add synthetic perfumes to it. It would be pointless. What you smell is the natural thing. Of course though if something is liquid it will have a preservative and if it is a shampoo then it will contain Sodium L. Sulphate. BUT the smells are natural.

Well yes it is. But the "smells" are not unatural. The only preservatives that are natural are honey and lavender. But those won't last long enough. You need a shampoo to last longer than three weeks and I am sure it wouldn't be nice to keep your shampoo in the fridge to retain freshness. But the smells, which is what we are talking about are the natural factors. But if you look at our preservatives you will see that the mostthey have are just two preservatives. Look at the back of your normal shampoo bottle from boots and try and figure out how many there are and how much is natural.

I suppose that we often assume that because it's natural that there won't be a reaction to it. As I said in my earlier post, I'm just amazed that I have no other allergies ever to any other product but everything that I've tried from Lush has made my skin red and hot.

I'm not defensive just clarifying that's all. I just don't want people to assume they can walk into a shop and get samples, any old samples. It's always best to have something in mind. AND if you do have any alergies you don't want to just ask for any old sample and find you have been given something that is totally wrong for you.
So yeah, that's all. :)

i walk into shops and get samples all the time, the ones that arent any good for me go to my mum or grandma or fella. you can actually walk into ANY beauty/fragrance/body products shop and ask to sample the products they carry, its really easy! :)

My friend used to work for Boots, and was always bringing the samples home because hardly anyone used to ask for them, and when they tried to give them out people mostly wouldn't accept them!

As a newbie to this site it might be good for someone (me :)) to refer you to the little sentance written at the top of the site 'Pls be nice to ALL money savers'
This means - no swearing or being rude, both of which i noticed you did in this post.
Please refrain from doing this again and the boards will be a much nicer place :)
Thankyou.
I must say I thought scoper made a very fair point. Maybe the use of "!!!!" and "God" are objectionable to you, that's fair enough. Ultimately I too am rather annoyed by people who do insist on taking the mickey and freeloading as far as they can without thinking of the impact it will have on other people, to whit:
* Moneysavingexpert.com could get a bad name for itself
* Genuine shoppers might miss out on the chance to get samples
Also please think about it - why exact "consumer revenge" on a company that's being nice to the consumer?
All I think scoper's saying is "Don't try to screw a nice company or we'll all lose out"

how can having approx £6 worth of soap from a company that makes loads and then giving it to someone who buys lush anyway and who loves one of teh sampel so much she buys two oversized block of it costing £4 each, how has teh company possibly LOST out?
comapnies set aside a tax-deducitble amount of their budget secifically for giving free samples, so why shouldnt we take them?
its not rude,it doesnt take teh mickey and its not freeloading to take a few samplers here and there, i encourage more peopkle to do it. if the comapnies couldnt afford to do it they wouldnt do it would they?
i love buying my cosmetic products from Lush from shampoo to bath bombs, if you do decide to buy something also ask for some samples as they usually have a load behind the till to bob in your bag
this way you will get double the freebies!!!

I'm not sure that the samples are really tax-deductable as that would involve every sample being put into the accounts.
Yes, you should take samples if you want to, but just don't be greedy ;-)
That's what I object to - the people who say "Great freebie, I signed up for 15000 of these, they'd better deliver soon or I'll slag them off"... or something like that, you know the sort I mean!
As it happens, knowing that Lush *do* give out samples will means I'll go there soon as there are a few things that tempt me... so thanks for the post in the first place!

Company samples ARE, DEFINITELY,ABSOLUTELY tax deductible, so you won't have to feel guilty when you ask for YOUR Lush FREE samples.
Have a nice day.

She is a genuine shopper tho. She said that she and her mum love lush which means she buys from there.
Please tell me where the 'consumer revenge' is?

I've done this before in Lush, very successfully (Covent Garden was particularly good). I did genuinely want to try some of the solid shampoo and conditioner before buying a huge lump - just as well as it made my hair feel horrible so I'm back to Pantene! So I went in and asked for samples. I ended up with two lovely shop assistants helping me choose which kind to try as it was quiet, then one of them asked me if there was anything else I'd like to try - well she offered! So I had samples of various face creams, soap and deodorants, think I had ten things in total. No pressure to buy, although they weren't allowed to give samples of the face pack so in the end I did buy a pot of that.
Yes I am a regular Lush customer, in fact have been since it first opened as I'm from very near its hometown. The smell of the shops always reminds me of home! So they've done well out of me over the years.
Anyway, if anyone's looking for an excuse for asking for freebies then the solid shampoo seems to be a good one as it's so "weird", therefore it's normal that you'd be a bit hesitant and want to try it first!
Oh yes, the samples most definitely are tax deductible, and no, of course they don't count them individually. A store will know how much soap etc it's been through in a day/month/year - whether that's been sold or given as a sample the total cost of it should be deductible.

I got quite a few samples by emailing their website contact. A box arrived arrived today although they did say they don't normally post it out.
