yeah they were all .be extensions. all said £4 a year and asked for debit card details.
Have gone elsewhere now.
Thanks though.

Has someone in your household already got some maybe on your email account?
I know several people on other forums are not having troubles.

I managed to get one for free without putting any credit card details in. I just searched for a domain name i wanted (using the search on the main page) ticked the .be one that came up and added to basket and when you view your basket it should say:
setup fee -20.00 annual fee 20.00 total fees 0.00.
Then i just clicked Proceed to checkout and it worked. I noticed on the main pricing page it only says setup fee -16.00 so if you are following that link maybe that it why it is charging 4 euros. I would try the front page search and see if its makes any difference. Hope this helps.

the thing about .be domains is that you cant use them on some free hosts like jamroll. although it is a tld (top level domain), because you can get them for free without credit/debit card details at some sites, the identity of the owner cannot be verified. it's good if you want a hosting account with the company you bought it from, but if you have to pay money to get the domain in the first place, you're better off buying a .com or .co.uk which is the same price.

Free for me aswell :D
One thing worth pointing out though, its not really that good becuase you get the address free for 1 year, but then its 20euros (£14ish) a year, you can register .co.uk and .com names for a lot less than this. So if your sites gonna be around more than a year its probably not worth doing.
If you want a free domain for life theres always www.dot.tk which gives you a free www.yourname.tk address, however it displays a pop up when you first enter the address into your browser.

www.dot.tk domains expire if your site does not receive enough hits within 60 days - it happened to mine. The best and shortest free domain I've found so far is www.yourname.uni.cc which comes with a nice little sitebuilder (simple but really nifty with flash headings etc) which you can get hold of at www.uni.cc plus I think you can use JamRoll with this package as well.
