Hi peeps

Would anyone know what I could expect to get for a Vectra 1.8 W plate 5dr 60000 miles?

I'm thinking about trading it in, but tbh, I don't really have the money to buy anything above £1000.

This just got a fresh MOT didn't it?

If so then it could be worth say £800 in a private sale.

That's a better way to go than a trade in.

Yes, on Friday
That's a better way to go than a trade in.
I'd rather not do private, I once sold a car private, the guy never left me alone nit picking with faults, I don't want that agro again.

I think you were unlucky. I've sold a few cars privately and with no come back. As a trade in it's probably worth almost nothing. The dealer would probably give you almost as much off for not trading it in particularly if you are only looking to spend £1000.

As pointed out above, you should get 800 ish as a private sale, but there are people out there like yiu, who don't want people coming to thier house and wasting your time, so the yturn to garages to offer PX, which is usually what the thing will auction off for...

if you px your vectra i dont think you will get a much better or newer car for your budget of 1k
your vectra would probably be up for about that on a dealers front
if it is fine now why not get another free years motoring out of it

I always sell my cars on flea bay as you normally get more than a trade in.

Glass's suggest a top value of around £615 in excellent condition. Surely the devil you know and all that makes selling it hardly cost effective for taking on someone elses banger?

To be honest, when it "failed" it's MOT, it's kinda knocked my confidence with it.

there is no guarantee a new car at 1000-00 is going to be a better car than the one you already have
what are you thinking of replacing it with
and dont forget the guy who did your mot said your car is fine for another 12000 miles

But they saw you coming, so why believe anything that they told you? You now have a car with 12 months MOT so drive it, not change it!

I'm going to be buying a new (old but new to me) car at the end of February and i'm deciding whether or not to PX my current car or to try and sell it privately.

Parkers gives me a valuation of:
Original Priced£13,315 http://www.parkers.co.uk/images/purplehelppopup.gif (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=15671&plate=63&overlay=OverlayHelpButtonOriginalPrice) Independent Dealer£1,725 http://www.parkers.co.uk/images/purplehelppopup.gif (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=15671&plate=63&overlay=OverlayHelpButtonIndependentDealer) Private Good £1,350 http://www.parkers.co.uk/images/purplehelppopup.gif (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=15671&plate=63&overlay=OverlayHelpButtonPrivateGood) Private Poor £455 http://www.parkers.co.uk/images/purplehelppopup.gif (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=15671&plate=63&overlay=OverlayHelpButtonPrivatePoor) Part Exchange£865 http://www.parkers.co.uk/images/purplehelppopup.gif (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=15671&plate=63&overlay=OverlayHelpButtonPartExchange)

Its a 306 1.8L XS (AC) 2000(W). Parkers price is assuming 80k but mines done 88k.

Really my question is if I was to take it in PX do you think i'd be able to get anywhere near the £1000 mark? The car i'd be buying would be about £6500 so i'm hoping to get it for £5500. Does this sound possible?

Also, when people go to buy a car do you try and haggle with main dealers or is that best left for private sales?

Probably not but then again depends how desperate they are to shift the other one. More chance if yours looks neat and tidy. Go to the vauxhall website and use the glass's guide that is on there and get a more accurate valuation but even then treat that with caution.

Just had a quick look £725 - £945 is goimg rate apparently. So if you get offered anything over +/- £800 you are probably doing ok.

Keep the Vectra! No matter how desperate you think the trader is to deal, and no matter how the deal is dressed up, the real value, your difference to change cars, will realistically see the dealer giving you £100 for the car.
