Our son will be 17 in February and we have been on the lookout for a little car for him. I found one a couple of weeks ago and it is still for sale - in fact, it has been reduced a little bit. Does anyone know of any websites where you can find out some history of the car before we make an appoinment to view it. It is advertised with a trader rather than a garage.

Thanks in advance.

Hiya

I had both my second hand cars checked through the one you can do when buying a car on ebay. I am sure you can use it for cars you don't buy on there. It showed if there was finance outstanding etc......

I would also advise you take someone with you who knows about cars - i bought a complete lemon (fiesta cost £800 in march. repairs march - october £1000 car eventually sold for scrap still not working properly).

Also you can use parkers to give you the guide price as to what that type of car should cost second hand etc....

good luck!

You can try http://www.rac.co.uk/web/vehicle-checks/car-data-check/ not to expensive.

& http://www.hpi.co.uk (http://www.hpi.co.uk/)

If it's really a budget priced car, are you not able to find a private sale, instead?

might be a bit cheaper, plus you can still get the checks carried out, as well.

how much are you spending?

On older cars i generally look at condition rather than history

my sister has a saxo that has been run with no water / oil etc in it, still runs

however it has a full service history on it!

My car has little service history but everything is checked every couple of days

RAC check as mentioned, about a £5r I think.

If everything appears right when you have viewed the car and the documentation, agree the price dependant on the RAC details and get the seller to knock the cost off the car. For £5 they wont refuse. Laptop or similar needed of course:money:

www.mycarcheck.com (http://www.mycarcheck.com)

Not used it myself but a number of guys in our club (IMOC) have and it's had good feedback. Only £3.95 and very quick.

Alternatively text the reg number to 83600 for a similar service (also handy for abandoned cars).
