i have been told a measly 250 pounds as part exchange.

its 1.2 litre petrol, manual petrol, maroon.

tyres need changing. should i keep it, but its negative equity to keep.

I don't understand why you think it's negative equity to keep.Would you care to elaborate?

If it's paid for,owes you nothing,is reliable,and is economical,got an MOT,then why get rid of it.You're as well waiting until an MOT costs more than what it's worth,and then deciding whether to p/x it,or scrap it.

If you have been offered £250 against a p/x, then I think you've done well in todays market place,although some places guarantee a min £1000,but remember,it's loaded onto your new purchase anyhow.

Why not advertise it in your local free paper,and then go back to the place where your getting your replacement from,and see if you can do a better deal without it.

Seems low, unless it is cosmetically damaged, i.e dents, rust, missing wheel trims etc, which would require the dealer to spend a bit of money on. Whilst px will be lower, the new cars will be lower too, so there should be a deal somewhere.

if it has plenty of mot and is tidy it will sell for 3 times that i reckon

The dealer wouldn't spend any money on a car this age... they'd just send it straight to auction.

it really depends on the type of dealership you are buying from as well and how much is the car you are looking to buy
if it is a small independant dealer and your car is tidy he could sell it at a good proffit
a bigger dealership is just going to give you a token gesture of 250-00 you would be better of knocking him down on the price of his car and getting rid of your car yourself
